I love love love the name Kaiser, it fits well with our last name and DH is on the fence but I'm sure I can convince him but is Kaiser too strange a name and how bad would you react if you met a boy with the name?

I hear Kaiser, I think Wilhelm.

cosytoaster · 12/12/2015 01:23

Sorry, I'd think it strange - just makes me think of Kaiser Bill and WW1

cosytoaster · 12/12/2015 01:24

X post Creature!

LadyB49 · 12/12/2015 01:36

When I hear Kaiser I think Rottweiler or pit bull terrier.
Don't like it.
Sorry

Nanofone · 12/12/2015 02:22

I'm with Lady - it's an attack dog.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 12/12/2015 02:24

My first thought is that it's the same name Janelle from Teen Mom 2 used 😬 and when I first heard she'd used it I was shocked and thought of the war. It has an evil sound, to my ears!

Qwebec · 12/12/2015 02:25

Kaiser... seems rather dodgy to me: where I live this is a kaiser (the type of bread) www.canalvie.com/polopoly_fs/1.1088840!/image/kaiser-a-la-salade-de-thon-2876.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_490/kaiser-a-la-salade-de-thon-2876.jpg

I also can't get over the german meaning.

Lweji · 12/12/2015 02:27

No

It would be the same as calling a child King, or Princess, or Tsar, or Duque.

Tartyflette · 12/12/2015 02:32

It means Emperor, and is the same as Caesar or Tsar/Czar.
More suitable as a name for a large dog, IMO.
Also calls to mind Kaiser Soze, the weird informant/villain in the film The Usual Suspects.

hownottofuckup · 12/12/2015 02:48

Actually I kind of like it. BUT I wouldn't call my own child it (if I had had the balls DS would be Thor) and if he was a child in DC's class I wouldn't judge but would be dying to ask why you chose it but far too polite to say.
If you do go ahead (which I hope you do if you love it) you should be prepared for some to be a bit judgey.
People often pre-judge a name but re-evaluate based on their interactions with someone called it.

FixItUpChappie · 12/12/2015 04:48

I think of Kasier rolls myself....sorry OP

Cerseirys · 12/12/2015 05:27

Wilhelm (and therefore WWI)
Rolls
Training
Söze

All are what I think of when I hear Kaiser. Please call your baby something else!

ineedamoreadultieradult · 12/12/2015 05:59

Kaiser Wilhelm

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 12/12/2015 06:11

Makes me think of war immediately and I wouldn't want that association for my child

villainousbroodmare · 12/12/2015 06:23

War, rottweilers... no.

tryingtocatchthewind · 12/12/2015 06:26

How about Adolf or Genghis?

puthyjip43 · 12/12/2015 06:27

No

CwtchMeQuick · 12/12/2015 06:28

My first thought was the Kaiser Chiefs.
I kind of like it in a strange way but I agree it'd be better suited to a dog

TaylorKent312 · 12/12/2015 08:16

Wow, okay pretty much everyone hates it, which sucks but is understandable, I'll most likely go with another name now and if I still love it by the time DS arrives, I might only use it as a middle name

Welcome to The Keiser Report, I'm Max Keiser.

maybebabybee · 12/12/2015 08:23

Good God no, that's awful.

I keep thinking names people suggest on these board are jokes but no, they are serious Confused

Stasie · 12/12/2015 08:28

Kai is alright (the little boy in the snow queen)

meanings are reall important IMO or at least, associations people have with names.

One of mine's named after my first love, one is named after a guy in a movie, and one is a great composer.

Did you have a reason for naming your child this?

Domino777 · 12/12/2015 08:31

Caius

Stasie · 12/12/2015 08:33

Isn't Caius pronounced 'Keys'? Or is that just the college?
