Heard today:-

Spring-rose

At the doctors the other day was deliah-rose. Thought it was a misspell for Delilah but then maybe it's Delia?

And the when I worked in a nursery there was a little boy called deneil. Not too bad you say, till you knew his older brother was called Neil Hmm

My all time favourite - Mike Hunt. He was the dad of a girl I swam with and his car had a sticker saying "Mike Hunt's Car".

Second prize - Somerset Pheasant. Almost as good!

3luckystars · 17/11/2015 18:58

Everyone called him Anus, even his teachers, he said it that way himself. "ANess" he pronounced it but it sounded like anus. He was so handsome too.

Hoppinggreen · 17/11/2015 19:01

Lisma, yes just Lisa but with a random "m" in it - her mum said she just thought it sounded cool.

MaidrinRua · 17/11/2015 21:00

I knew a complete ass hat once who called her baby boy 'Shock' and her daughter 'Pixie Lane'. Then when her boy was about 2 she randomly changed his name to Lennon. Like...WTF?!?!

dancelikenooneiswatching · 18/11/2015 00:02

Someone was on another baby forum today asking if she should call her son Wolfric! I know someone who's son is Zorgar, after a character in a book apparently.

Scoobydoo8 · 18/11/2015 13:09

But no name will stop the delightful DSs turning into fat balding middle aged men - Somehow Zorgar doesn't quite fit then.

Canyouforgiveher · 18/11/2015 19:28

Dualta is the name of a character in one of Walter Macken's books - Seek the Fair Wind maybe. I had such a crush on him.

Rshard · 18/11/2015 20:43

The brother of one of dd's school friends is called Oakley.

A woman at work is called Pawsha (Portia)

ToddlerTantrums · 18/11/2015 21:13

Oh the Romanys reminded me - I know of a little girl called Gypsy.
Have to admit I love some of the names on this thread!

gingerboy1912 · 18/11/2015 21:17

Spurgeon.

Apparently it's the name of one of the Duggars new arrivals

MrsEdinburgh · 18/11/2015 22:29

I've met or know of a Rock, Liberty, Lennon, Keane, Fox, Wednesday, Nevaeh, Anneli, Tansy, Cooper, Dakota, Prince, Mercedes, Ebony, Snow, Travis, Amelie, Shaw, Horatio, Dustin, Bethel, Tequila, Porshe, Perry, Anais, Solomon, Troy & recently babies Malcolm, Lisa & Irene.

MoonlightandMusic · 18/11/2015 23:25

Galahad, Dumnac and Athos.

Also, have an Irish friend from Limerick (West of Ireland), and she was mentioning the "Anus" pronunciation for Aeneas the other day as being standard. It wasn't until she moved as an adult the association with the body part sank in.

Crazypetlady · 19/11/2015 01:33

Bethel is a welsh village never heard it as a name.

I know want to call possible future daughter aurelia

Lancelottie · 19/11/2015 08:30

I'd never heard it as a name either, Crazypetlady, but DD swears there are two Bethels at her school! I thought she'd misheard Bethan, but apparently not.

Crazypetlady · 19/11/2015 12:43

oh dear I now want that should be.

Oh Lancelottie I dont't disbelieve you. Maybe it is an area trend?

Lancelottie · 19/11/2015 12:59

Could be - I wonder where MrsEdinburgh lives if she knows another one (could be a clue in the user name!)

meddie · 19/11/2015 18:26

baby boy called Lucifer, there really needs to be the ability for registrars to veto some names.

UmbongoUnchained · 19/11/2015 18:30

meddie I love the name the lucifer! Not for a baby though. I had 2 black cats called lucifer and Salem.

TesticleOfObjectivity · 19/11/2015 18:36

There was a boy at my school called Glory to God. That's always stuck in my mind.

Tbh I've never met anyone with half the names I read on this board, so names like Araminta, Persephone and Ptomley etc are pretty unusual to me (I'd never heard of them pre-mumsnet) but judging by this board are quite common. Whereas in real life I know a lot of people with Arabic, Indian and African names that some people might find unusual but aren't unusual to me because that's what I grew up around.

MrsEd - I really wanted to call my dd Wednesday but thought it might across like I was trying too hard to be different!

Honeybeam · 19/11/2015 18:38

I have worked in a school where there was a Merry and a Merrie in one class. I thought it was very strange.

MrsEdinburgh · 19/11/2015 22:42

Lancelottie was when I lived in the Midlands about 5 yrs ago.

Test I did briefly consider Thursday for DD1 as that was the day she wasbornn.

MrsEdinburgh · 19/11/2015 22:43

Was born.

dancelikenooneiswatching · 19/11/2015 23:27

I was in the changing room at the gym and heard someone calling her daughter Arriety. Must have been a Borrowers fan.

Lweji · 19/11/2015 23:38

Just remembered that Aurelia was Julius Caesar's mother.

UptownFunk00 · 20/11/2015 11:54

I know a Legeon but it's pronounced Legion.

Junior and Senior (don't believe they know each other).
