Heard today:-

Spring-rose

At the doctors the other day was deliah-rose. Thought it was a misspell for Delilah but then maybe it's Delia?

And the when I worked in a nursery there was a little boy called deneil. Not too bad you say, till you knew his older brother was called Neil Hmm

Frodo. I kid you not.

UmbongoUnchained · 10/11/2015 00:56

Both my DC names have been mentioned Grin

toddlerwrangling · 10/11/2015 01:07

Know a Lovekin, must rank as most unusual name I've come across! Poor kid though :o

Kessy2 · 10/11/2015 01:12

Shawnathan

ToddlerTantrums · 10/11/2015 01:17

Through work I know of a Fanny Bushi (foreign so sure it never occurred to her parents)
Also know of a little boy called Miracle. I wonder if his parents just liked the name or if they had trouble conceiving or something. He suits it anyway

groovergirl · 10/11/2015 01:25

Miracle is so sweet! Well, probably awful when he reaches high school, but as an expression of his parents' affection, so lovely.

Shawnathan? Arghhhh!

IRL, I nominate Rad Ryko, Shakailah-Jayde and Maverick. Yep, real names of real children.

C'mon, nobody would call a baby 'Raspberry' Shock that's just too silly.

When my DC were younger we had a game where I'd call them stupid names when we were in the supermarket. I'd do it in all seriousness and they would play along. I must try calling my DDs Raspberry and, umm, loganberry next time. Grin Anything to make shopping more fun.

I've worked with Zulu, Xhosa etc DC and some had brilliant 'English' names such as Miracle, Suprise, Smiley or Thankful while other had the most amazing African names that could includ a 'click' sound and a seemingly random collection of consonants such as Mgwazeni or Phiwokwakhe. Throw in my English accent and taking the register could be very challenging indeed.

Nandocushion · 10/11/2015 02:21

Heard a dad the other day calling "Vandieeee" - short for Vandal, it turned out.

CormoranStrike · 10/11/2015 07:32

A boy called Islay , pronounced Isla.

CormoranStrike · 10/11/2015 07:39

And a woman called Happy, hippy parents rather than cultural norm, I think.

Oh, I could call my next child Cultural Norm!

Lweji · 10/11/2015 07:41

Please don't call your child Cultural Norm.
Norm is quite old fashioned and they'd be bullied for it.

Cormoran was he named after the island? I know quite a few Islay's as I have family connections to the island!

I recently met a little girl called Ocean. There's a woman in my firm called Tequila. Confused

CormoranStrike · 11/11/2015 20:54

Yes, named after the island - he had very unusual middle names too, but too identifying to post as he must be one of s kind.

BikeRunSki · 11/11/2015 23:14
