Heard today:-

Spring-rose

At the doctors the other day was deliah-rose. Thought it was a misspell for Delilah but then maybe it's Delia?

And the when I worked in a nursery there was a little boy called deneil. Not too bad you say, till you knew his older brother was called Neil Hmm

Séverine is very common as a French name.

Binkybix · 08/11/2015 21:31

Sherlock Shock

Fibbertigibbet · 08/11/2015 21:36

I used to work with a lovely lady whose name was Dreamy Tree-Sprite!

marriednotdead · 08/11/2015 22:14

Some of these are incredible! Agree with the cultural variants though- I've met several Princess's, a Queen and more without a royal in sight Grin

I once met a lovely lady called Anniversary and also knew a Ladonna who always had to correct people...

DS had a couple of boys at school called Surrage (sounded like sewage) and the first Waqas I'd ever heard of.

FattyFishwife · 08/11/2015 22:15

head teacher (female) at a local school is called Tuesday

have heard of a few denims, levi's and a few after places of conception Atlanta and Phoenix

Going on that theme I would have one called Tufted Wilton, one called Premier Inn and one called King-size Divan.. Grin

luciole15 · 08/11/2015 23:00

Latrina

IoraRua · 08/11/2015 23:00

Not unusual as such, this one, but when you put them all together it certainly is.
I've just remembered that a girl in my school had 10 first names (yes, ten). I can't remember them now and wouldnt post them anyway - it'd out me and her - but it was along the lines of Anastasia Ophelia Natasha Aurelia Clarabelle Desdemona Octavia Lucinda Araminta Serenity. No joke, all long names like that. No family connection to em either.

....she went by a very short, three letter name that had nothing to do with the above, and desperately hid her actual name Grin Don't go overboard with your children's names, people....

I met an earl once. He was a nice kid.

Somethingpink · 09/11/2015 00:42

When I had DD 2 years ago the woman across from me in hospital named her daughter pixie.

Although I cannot say anything I have an Autumn Raine. Blush

Yes luciole I saw a Latrina on the news; she was commenting on a flood/hurricane.

luciole15 · 09/11/2015 13:06

Wow! I thought it was an urban myth!

Clueing4looks · 09/11/2015 15:11

I worked in maternity and there was a patient called Raven Shakespeare. I've always remembered her and still wonder if it was her real name.

Snowball789 · 09/11/2015 20:24

Children I have taught over the years: Blaise, Kilo, Britannia, Liliette (now known as Tampon Girl at secondary school!) Lillibet, Iondolo (pronounced 'Yondolo', Masterman, Jodene, Iago, Loveday, Myrrh, Birdie (Mum admitted she'd mis-spelled Bridie) Persephone, Scout, Rumer, Thalia, Victorine, Inigo, Romily, Rhoda, Frusanna, Ebony, Diamanda, Bertrand, Devlin, Lildo (short for Lillian-Dody, apparently, but we all know what it rhymes with) and Valda. Plus 101 names beginning with K. But you know, if you saw the children the names generally worked.

Evenstar · 09/11/2015 20:33

Tiara Hmm

BikeRunSki · 09/11/2015 20:36

Several years ago I posted on here about a child I'd seen at soft play called Polaris.

JasperDamerel · 09/11/2015 20:46

Jehane is a lovely name. But I can't imagine one in the modern world.

I'm fairly sure I could be identified if posted the most unusual names I know.

TwistInMySobriety · 09/11/2015 20:52

I live abroad where naming traditions can get quite unusual. A selection of my favourites: Lenin-Jahnavi, Sydney-Diorr, Ode-Chadli, and Doris-Kill.

Lweji · 09/11/2015 21:38

Conversely I live in a country where naming is strictly controlled. There is a list of approved names for nationals and a list of names that have been requested but not approved.
The worst case is one that is in the not approved list, but I know someone (national, older than me) with that very name.

Zhabr · 09/11/2015 22:59

D'Artanignan as a first name, nn d'Arty. Also know Summer-Princess. Jacqueline Wilson's books are great for the unusual names. When she was signing a book for my DD several years ago, she commented on DD's name as 'interesting'. But so far the name did not make it to the book.

SouthernShepherdess · 09/11/2015 23:50

There used to be a girl in DD's school, she's at secondary now, called Rogue..yes, Rogue, as in Rogue Traders!

Lweji · 10/11/2015 00:00

I'd assume it was from the X-men stories.

MrsFlorrick · 10/11/2015 00:02

Went to school with a Siri (spelt exactly like that).

Met several Jagos. Also met a D'Jago

D'jahngo (girl)

Za

Know a Keighleigh (50 yo lady)

ohhelpohnoitsa · 10/11/2015 00:07

I know of many (all true)
Candida
Charisma (2 girls bith with very little)
Destiny
Talent
Manhoor
Sukki (no souki like sucky)
Redd (which I love)
Fizzy
Laurelei

Many of these are non white British though so we must allow for cultural differences. Laurelei is white British and I have never heard it before.

SarahDuckandMummy · 10/11/2015 00:29

I used to work with a girl called Fanta. She was lovely.
