Baby names

Mayday: an unusual, yet unique girls name.

My girl is due early next year (already have a 3 year old girl) and we haven't decided on a name yet.
I came across this name nameberry.com/babyname/Mayday/comments and I have come to love this wonderful, unique name!
What do you think of this name?
And do you have any middle name suggestions?

I would like to have a normal, traditional middle name to go with this unusual first name.

Here are some ideas:

Mayday Grace
Mayday Rose
Mayday Jean
Mayday Jane
Mayday Jade
Mayday Lane
Mayday Renae
Mayday Bree

That is a strange coincidence. DH and I ended up perusing the appalling nameberry only this evening. Well, I say "perusing", it was more "pointing and laughing".

The highlight was its insistence that Taliesin was a girls' name.

Thing is, she'll call herself May like all the other little Mays and Maes and you'll have lost all 'uniqueness' you were looking for in the first place.

Oh people are so mean on baby names. There are lots of possible middle names that go.

Mayday Call
Mayday Signal
Mayday Alert
Mayday Drill
Mayday Fair
Mayday Flare (potential to mix those two up)
Mayday Holiday (bit frilly)
Mayday Christmas (mix things up a bit)
Mayday Pole (obvious maybe but classic - maybe not for a short child)

At least it's different.

'Unusual yet unique' ? Confused

I would make the assumption that th parents of little Mayday were very very young, or of limited intelligence or both. Sorry.

You can'take be serious!? Mayday is a 'word' not a name!

'Maypole' is a 'unique' word. What about using that Hmm

Panpan

Basically, if you've found it on a babyname site, even sodding nameberry, then it won't be unique. There's 7 billion people in the world but with a Scrabble board and Google and a lot of work you might just be able to find something that's both unique and pronounceable if you start now.

I think if you're going to do it then you have to do it properly

I'm pretty sure the OP wasn't serious and is just having a laugh at us all... No one is really going to call their baby Mayday Grin

I thought your title meant 'help, looking for a unique baby name'. As Mayday is a cry for help.

Not a patch on the poster who complained that her DH wouldn't let her use the name of her choice even though he'd promised and once she'd got everyone to agree she WNBU revealed that the name was Slither.

You are restricting her life choices. She can never become a pilot. Or probably a sailor.

Wasn't it a Bond Girl?

The one played by Grace Jones, I think. It could be the start of a theme, with sisters Christmas, Pussy and Solitaire.

Sounds like "Maisy" pronounced with an awful speech impediment...

I opened this thread assuming it was a cry for help finding an unusual, unique girl's name. Never dreamed that Mayday was the actual unusual, unique suggestion.

Have you considered Loveday?

Me too Kelda! The mind boggles.

Weeping at poor, short Mayday Pole.

OP, come back as I'm dying to know your older DD's name! Flare? Morse? Titanica?
