Mayday: an unusual, yet unique girls name.

My girl is due early next year (already have a 3 year old girl) and we haven't decided on a name yet.
I came across this name nameberry.com/babyname/Mayday/comments and I have come to love this wonderful, unique name!
What do you think of this name?
And do you have any middle name suggestions?

I would like to have a normal, traditional middle name to go with this unusual first name.

Here are some ideas:

Mayday Grace
Mayday Rose
Mayday Jean
Mayday Jane
Mayday Jade
Mayday Lane
Mayday Renae
Mayday Bree

Why do people feel the need to have "unique" names for their children: it's so presumptuous, " My offspring is sooooo special and amazing that it must bear a name of no other!" Get over yourself and choose an actual name.

Mayday Bree sounds like an international cheese crisis.

Please don't call your child Mayday. It would be cruel.

She'll grow up embarrassed by her name and by her parents.

There are lots and lots of beautiful names out there.

Ha Ha ha. This is a joke, right?

I mean, who names their child after a distress signal for people about to die?

The 'pick a noun, any noun' school of naming taken to extremes!

Ah, your only thread with this user name. That's comforting...

The quest for a 'unique' name always confuses me not least as it unleashes the only pedantic rage I ever experience.

Unique means one of a kind.

Oh, oh, I've got another idea: how about 'Au secours'?

I love Mayday Mayday. Its the only option. And surely unique to use the same first name as middle name which will score you extra unique points!

The thing is, it's not that hard to find lovely, uncommon names.

My own name is so unusual that almost every time I'm introduced to someone I am asked about it.

But it's a very old, traditional name. Spelled in a standard way and can also be found all the baby books.

It just takes a little research and thought.

Give your child a name you like OP. If you don't want her to be one of three or four in the class just make sure it's not in the top 25 names.

The point about Taliesin was that nameberry had it as a girl's name - the original Taliesin was male.

What about Maida Vale as an alternative?

Or if it is the idea of a bank holiday with pagan connections you like, what about Halloween?
Not that different from Doreen / Maureen etc.

Grace Jones as Mayday reminds me of Robert Webb doing Flashdance.

I had a hormonal mad period in my first pregnancy and wanted to call dd Lorelei. And our surname begins with l and has a second l too. Told dd this the other day actually - she's now a self composed 9 year old - she was horrified at the thought.
