Clement, Clarence, Roscoe or Gilbert?

We are totally settled on Astrid if we have a daughter, LOVE IT! but a little confused for a boy. We always had Roscoe in mind way before I was ever pregnant but since being pregnant have come up with a few others. Gilbert, my husband like Gil and I like Bert as nick names, worried child will have 2 diff nicknames! Also like Clarence, Roscoe and Clement, Florian is an outside possibility too. Any thoughts?

I like Roscoe a lot (with Ross an NN?), and Clement/Clem is nice too.

I don't like Gilbert though I'm afraid. Did anyone ever watch the Morgana Show/The Gilbert Show? It's on youtube...

Don't be put off by opinion. Rather a name that is unusual and shows a bit of thought and imagination than just another A, B or C amongst a dozen others in their school.

I like Gill and Bertie, but not so much Gilbert.

Of your choices, I think Roscoe is the nicest full name. But Gill is the nicest nn.

Clarence is my favourite of the ones you've listed

its a great name because it's rare but it's not unusual and won't garner any strange looks. Non protencious but will be the only one in his class. Perfect by my standards

I love Astrid.

I like Gil and Bert, less so Gilbert. Roscoe sounds like a dog's name to my ears (sorry). Definitely 1940's butler vibe. This may or may not be a bad thing.

Chaffinch4 · 02/08/2017 16:40

I love Gilbert nn Gil, would have been dc3s name if she had been a boy.

Never heard Roscoe. I like Clement too.

I don't really know what "wet" names are, but there are plenty of Alberts and other names of that era around, so I don't think a Gilbert would stand out that much.

Just realised - ancient post! Wonder what the op went for in the end.

Lemondrop99 · 02/08/2017 16:42

MrsHenty, why are you ressurecting multiple old threads to comment on the name Clarence? Seems a little odd - especially as you don't appear to be trying to name a baby and have all girls! Hmm

Mothervulva · 02/08/2017 17:27

I just spent all afternoon reading this in between dealing with the kids. Then I realise it's from 2015!

SuperBeagle · 02/08/2017 22:56

All dire except Roscoe, which could at least be considered "cool" if the person wearing it was cool.

Clement, Clarence and Gilbert are awful.

SuperBeagle · 02/08/2017 22:56

Ah shit, zombie thread.

Love Florian. It's on my list

Like Roscoe

Dislike the others

LyannaStarktheWolfMaid · 03/08/2017 07:44

Astrid is a great name. I know a child called Roscoe. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but it suits him. All the others are very twee. Sorry!

LyannaStarktheWolfMaid · 03/08/2017 07:45

Ah, I see. Zombie!
