This is the only actual name that DP & I actually really like for a girl (we don't know what we are having).

Any thoughts?

Don't know if it's worth mentioning but we also like the nn vivi that I can imagine us using for her as a baby/small child

You'd better like Ultravox!

I've not come across it as a name before, and though I don't take to it much (sorry) I do think it would work.

pretend · 21/08/2015 09:05

I'd always want to say ahhhHHH ViennAAAAHHH like the song SmileSmile

Also it's too reminiscent of various types of foods eg Viennese Whirls.

What's wrong with Vivienne if you like Vivi?

GrizzlebertGrumbledink · 21/08/2015 09:06

It's a beautiful city...

pretend · 21/08/2015 09:07

Valentia?
Venetia?

Notaverymemorablename · 21/08/2015 09:07

I had to google Ultravox Blush I'll listen to the song later as I don't know it myself.

That' the association that's holding me back - Viennetta ice cream- but I do LOVE ice cream so what's wrong with that?? Haha.

I'm not fussed on Vivienne, I always think Pretty Woman too Hmm

Thank you both though :)

Aah Vienna!
What about viola or valentina or vanda?

Notaverymemorablename · 21/08/2015 09:10

Seems this song was very popular! I was born in 86 so perhaps just missed it!

Viola is pretty but don't instantly like the other V names as much as I do when I see or hear Vienna...

Violetta?

RiverTam · 21/08/2015 09:17

It's a song, a city and a baked good. What it isn't is a girls' name.

(I'm boggled that you've never heard if this song. I was born in the 70s but I know loads of the big hits of the 60s and 50s. It's one of the biggest hits of the 80s! Did you not ever have the radio on growing up?)

ApplesTheHare · 21/08/2015 09:18

I think Ultravox or food. Biscuits. I think.

Eastpoint · 21/08/2015 09:21

What about Viviana? Vivienne? Vienna is the anglicized name of a city rather than a woman's name. I think that anyone named Vienna would go through life being asked if they were conceived, born there or if their parents honeymooned there.

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 21/08/2015 09:23

Sorry but I would always, without fail, sing the Ahhh Vienna! Song EveryTime i said her name. And probably not just the ahh Vienna bit either. this means nothing to meeeeeee! Ahhh Vienna!!!!!

I know a Sienna and I do it to her too. And to Brianna, now I think about it. To be fair, I do have Singing Issues.

Great song. If you want your child to have an awesome signature tune, then it is a brilliant name.

If you don't want her going through life with everyone she meets saying "I know a song about you!" (As happens to my friend Layla) then I would pick something else.

whatdoIget · 21/08/2015 09:23

I think the ultravox song was re-released at some point in the 90s so you really would have a lot of people whose first though was oh Vienna

GoooRooo · 21/08/2015 09:24

Anyone over the age of 35 will immediately think of Ultrafox.

I like Vivi though - could you not just have that?

GoooRooo · 21/08/2015 09:24

UltraVOX

Notaverymemorablename · 21/08/2015 09:30

Maybe I will recognise the song when I hear it!

KaraokeQueenoftheNorth - I think your username gives it away Wink

So I get the Ultravox connection but not too bothered by it, there are worse connotations. And the biscuit/sweet relation is exactly that - sweet.

I'm not sure if I would ever say to a person 'Were you named after the city where you were conceived Eastpoint - would you? If you would, you certainly have more balls than me haha.

No really negative connotations for me, so it's still definitely in the Top3. Thanks for all your help Smile

It's a no from me, sorry.

Think Vienna sausage. Vienna whirl. Vienna waltz.
It's one of my favourite cities for sure, but as a name? no.

ChilliAndMint · 21/08/2015 09:37

It was the name of Rigsby's cat in Rising Damp.

RiverTam · 21/08/2015 09:39

Sweet? You want your daughter to go through life with people thinking she's sweet? When she's 20? 40? 60? Well, it's one aspiration I supose.

steppemum · 21/08/2015 09:40

I think it is quite pretty. Can't get past the song myself, but that's just me

Tangoandcreditcards · 21/08/2015 09:41

I went to school with a girl called Vianne. Which is a very pretty name, I prefer it to Vienna (agree, I think of the song and sausages).

pictish · 21/08/2015 09:41

I knew a Vienna once. I like it.

snowgirl1 · 21/08/2015 09:43

How about Sienna instead?

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 21/08/2015 09:44

It's a city, not a name. And Vivi is a nickname for one's lady parts.
