This is the only actual name that DP & I actually really like for a girl (we don't know what we are having).

Any thoughts?

Vianne?

Eastpoint · 21/08/2015 09:45

Have you never met anyone named after the place they were conceived? I knew 3 brothers each named after their place of conception (Witney, Chester & can't remember the other), Brooklyn Beckham, a Siena, a Florence...

Haven't met any Peckhams, Batleys or Salfords yet Grin.

MadGrumblyGnome · 21/08/2015 09:46

What about Viana?

Notaverymemorablename · 21/08/2015 09:47

Well i'd rather her be thought of as sweet than a sour old puss like you RiverTam Wink Imagine posting such rude comments on a very polite post. What a miserable life!

Thanks Steppemum & Pictish

Vianne is also pretty.

I have adored Sienna for years snowgirl but increasingly popular where I am... it's taken me a while to disconnect Sienna and Vienna, and now I see them as 2 completely different names, I really like Vienna Smile thank you though

Vivi is a lady's parts Blush - I call mine a Minnie... is that popular MrsLeighHalfpenny? You have a great taste in husband by the way!!

Eastpoint - I have heard of plenty, but I would never ask, but I'm a wimp! we were having this discussion at work yesterday where a SIL of a colleague is about to call her son 'Lane'....

I like Vianne & Viana - will take those home to DP tonight Smile

Mr Halfpenny says thank you Blush.

MadGrumblyGnome · 21/08/2015 09:52

I know a Viana, she is Italian and absolutely lovely Smile

BitOutOfPractice · 21/08/2015 09:54

I immediately sang "The image is gone only you and I. This means nothing to meeeeeeee oooooooo Vienna!" when I read the thread title

Branleuse · 21/08/2015 09:54

It means nothing to me

Notaverymemorablename · 21/08/2015 09:54

Could you please ask him to let Mr Jamie Roberts that although I am otherwise spoken for and quite upduffed with child, I can make myself available if he ever needs me? Blush thank you Grin

Sorry to be so negative

Maybe my friends are more open if they've been given slightly unusual names?

Viana sounds very similar to the Mercedes Viano...

Notaverymemorablename · 21/08/2015 09:56

Not negative Eastpoint - I just wonder what you would ask me if you heard my real name! Not conception/city related but unusual. I love it though. As is my surname, so am going to be quite sad when I give it up next year!

I must walk around with stuff in my ears and a blindfold. goes off to google Mercedes Viano

No. Sausages and Midge Ure. Sorry.

Iusedtobeapenguin · 21/08/2015 09:59

The longest and most overrated song ever.

RiverTam · 21/08/2015 10:02

Not a sour old puss at all! Just someone who is aware that a baby girl will grow up to be a woman and you might want to bear that in mind when naming her. Because if she grows up resenting the name you've saddled her with, she'll be a whole lot ruder to you about it than I am(if I am at all).

MidnightVelvetthe3rd · 21/08/2015 10:06

I love Vienna the city (in German its Wien pronounced veen), I also think the word is beautiful when spelled or spoken. However if I were to meet a baby Vienna today I'd assume you were following the dreadful practice of naming the baby after the place of conception, sorry.

I like Viola, very Shakesperian & I like Violette or Violetta. I also like Vienne & Vivienne (not Vivian).

Lemonfizzypop · 21/08/2015 10:07

I think it's lovely!

DextersMistress · 21/08/2015 10:10

I'm only 2 years older than you and I can only think of the song too, sorry.

As an aside, why are you changing your name if you love it?

MidnightVelvetthe3rd · 21/08/2015 10:10

OP RiverTam wasn't being offensive, she was saying that we raise our girls to grow into strong women who are expected to be more than eye candy & well behaved accessories for men. Being sweet as a baby is fine but an adult woman will carve out her career with that name & sweetness is not a behaviour needed to be taken seriously in a professional workplace :)

MidnightVelvetthe3rd · 21/08/2015 10:12

Also OP, sorry I meant to mention this earlier. If you're getting married then you don't have to give up your surname...

Notaverymemorablename · 21/08/2015 10:23

I'm only playing Rivertam - each to their own, which is why I don't really take much notice of the advice on these threads. I like to hear it but I am pretty strong and indpependant and what I like is what I like :) I think Vienna would be taken seriously in a professional workplace, as I am with my unusual name.

I love my surname but I am very traditional and would like to take my husbands name putting my shield up ready to be shot down my mumsnetters! I have no problem with people who don't change their surname though.

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 21/08/2015 10:23

Notavery I certainly will do. If Jamie is busy, Mike might be available to help a lady in need.

Sophronia · 21/08/2015 10:26

It makes me think of the song and the city. Have your ever been to Vienna? Seems a bit meaningless to use the name if you haven't.

TendonQueen · 21/08/2015 10:36

I also think of Ultravox and of Rigsby putting out his cat in Rising Damp saying 'and it's goodnight, Vienna!' Look on YouTube.

Notaverymemorablename · 21/08/2015 11:08

Mike will do just fine thank you MrsHalfpenny

I haven't been to Vienna, maybe we will take a babymoon there to help with our decision?
Will do TendonQueen

Just out of curiosity, would any of the Ultravox/Ahhhhh Vienaaaaahhhh posters think the same of names like 'Mandy', 'Delilah', 'Jackie', 'Jane', 'Sally' or would they be deemed 'ok' as they are 'normal' names?
