I really don't like Rae.

Sienna is far nicer than Poppy. I've met a few of the latter and they have all been...trying.

WanderingTrolley1 · 09/08/2015 00:39

Drop the Rae.

HowDdo2You · 09/08/2015 00:52

I don't like Rae either, sorry op.

I am pleased the child isn't going to be saddled with a name like a terrorist organisation.

What about Rainie instead of Ray?

emmalouise90 · 09/08/2015 08:16

I prefer to have Rae as a middle name then something chavvy like Mae Mai May

I can't believe people have suggested ramona lol what even is that Confused

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/08/2015 08:45

It is very much in the same bracket of names of May. HTH

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 09/08/2015 09:14

Ramona is the female version of Raymond. It isn't that odd a suggestion given your requirements! Grin

TheCraicDealer · 09/08/2015 09:16

I wouldn't be snobby about the Mae thing- there's one letter between it and Rae, they're the same sound, and from my own circle it's getting to be a popular "stick it in there sure" middle name for girls. You're going to get the same thoughts about it from plenty of people, that it's a filler/nothing name. No one else is going to get the Raymond connection unless you tell them.

HowDdo2You · 09/08/2015 09:22

If a "chanvvy " name is something to avoid then Rae is a name to avoid.

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 09/08/2015 09:26

Ooh just noticed your judgey comment on May.

Not nice

But for your info. Rae is seen exactly the same. Exactly.

HowDdo2You · 09/08/2015 09:29

Op was calling other posters "small minded" earlier too. Confused

Only1scoop · 09/08/2015 09:29

Mae....Rae both same but for one letter and one no more Chavtastique than the other. Personally think they both have a Chav ring to them when used as a second name.

Piper awful

Isla beautiful just popular. Why not go for it if you love it.

In answer to your question Ramona is a just a fantastic name in it own right.

Only1scoop · 09/08/2015 09:31

Didn't expect you to like people's Ramona suggestion....

Phew slightly relieved Grin

caker · 09/08/2015 09:38

How about Raymonda? There's a beautiful ballet of that name.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/08/2015 10:22

Poppy or Sienna Rae are both ok.

Skye Rae and Piper Rae, no. The first one's too short and they both sound vaguely like classic cars to me. I think because the emphasis falls on the 'Rae' rather than the name.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 09/08/2015 10:25

Rae is just as 'chavvy' as Mae, more so than May which is a long established name.

Ramona is the female version of Raymond, Rae isn't. But whatever, you're rude and annoying.

florascotia · 09/08/2015 10:57

Poppy Rachel? Pretty + classic. Or Rachel Isla?

I also like Ailsa (another 'island' name) as an alternative to Isla.

florascotia · 09/08/2015 11:17

OP A further thought - why not simply follow the example of the much-loved Scottish politician Baroness Janet Ray Michie*, and use 'Ray' (spelled that way) as a middle name for your daughter?

Baroness Michie was always known by her middle name. No-one would have dreamed of calling it - or her - 'chavvy' (dreadful word).

VixxFace · 09/08/2015 11:33

I like Ray. I like Raya. Love Sienna and Skye. Dislike Poppy immensely.

purplepandas · 09/08/2015 11:41

I was going to comment but since I clearly have 'chavvy' tendencies by naming one of my DDs with May as a middle name, I clearly am not qualified.

purplepandas · 09/08/2015 11:41

And yes it is an awful word. Not pleasant at all. I am sorry to have even retyped it.

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 09/08/2015 11:53

pandas - one of mine has Rose.Shock Shock And I have one of the generic 70/80s middle names. We're doomed!

purplepandas · 09/08/2015 13:31

Oh I missed Rose, I am doubly doomed then! Glad I am in good company libraries :)

SusanMichelson · 09/08/2015 16:25

Just call her Isla Skye and be done with it.

SusanMichelson · 09/08/2015 16:26

I didn't say Rose and May were chavvy. just very very ubiquitous as middle names because they are pretty and go with everything.

I love both of them actually.
