Enola Gay was the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.
Are you going to be using the Rae as part of her first name? So will she be Isla-Rae? I think that sounds like IRA but I think if it's just a middle name Isla Rae Hall doesn't sound like IRA because you place the emphasis on the words slightly differently.
I've got a 2 year old and don't know any Islas. If you love it then use it. You'll always get negative opinions.

SusanMichelson · 08/08/2015 08:55

I don't really like the name 'Rae' for a girl or a boy in fact but I can see why you want to use it. The trouble is a lot of people seem to have used it as a sort of 'filler' name - it goes with everything pretty much.

Like Rose or Mae as a middle name for just about everything, just because, it's there.

We know of an Edie Rae whom my children refer to affectionately as 'Dvd Blu Ray'

Loads of Islas here (SE)

Just don't go with Blue as a first name.

DiscoDiva70 · 08/08/2015 09:15

I'm not keen on Isla Hall sorry to say, it seems bland
Also, for some reason when I read it quickly to myself it sounds like 'i'll call'
Maybe that's just me thinking that though!

How about Emilia Rae, Lucy Rae, Lexie Rae, Sophie Rae, Bethany Rae, Rebecca Rae,.... there's loads of other first names that I think would sound stronger with the name Hall to be honest

Barefoot789 · 08/08/2015 09:20

I think Isla is a nice name. It's popularity needn't bother you, it's popular because it's nice!
We chose quite a rare name for DS and there's still another one in his year group.
But I do like Imogen too! But I'm biased as that is DD name.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/08/2015 09:49

I think Rae sounds fine with most names to be honest. It's similar to Jane or May.

I think Imogen Rae goes nicely, and you don't know she'd be called Immie - if you don't use it as a nickname I think it would be quite unlikely others would.

TheoriginalLEM · 08/08/2015 10:24

i didn't know that about enola gay. every day's a school day Wink

yummymango · 08/08/2015 11:05

I think Isla is very pretty. I wouldn't choose it because it's popular now, but that's just me - if you don't know any Islas then why not? I'm not keen on Rae - I understand your reasons though. Depends how you use it, if it's just merely a middle name then I guess it's ok but if you are planning on using it together as a double barrel first name 'Isla Rae' then I would say it reminds me of names like Ellie-Mae, Jamie-Lynn etc (have you seen TED??)

ButterflyOfFreedom · 08/08/2015 13:16

I like the name Isla but agree with others who have said Isla Rae sounds like IRA.

Sophie Rae was on our shortlist at one point.

Or:
Martha Rae
Josie Rae
Georgia Rae
Lydia Rae
Elsie Rae
Imogen Rae
Bethany Rae
Leila Rae

SirChenjin · 08/08/2015 13:21

If you're not using the 2 as joint first names - eg Isla-Rae which does sound like IRA, then she'll just be known as Isla which is a lovely name. I'm in Scotland - it's not popular/common round here (although there are 3 Rocco's locally, each family no doubt thinking they would be unique - ha!)

emmalouise90 · 08/08/2015 14:36

Wouldn't be double barrelled not keen on double barrelled names I also like Piper but don't know what people think of that?.

ifgrandmahadawilly · 08/08/2015 14:40

Isla is nice but very popular at the moment.

Rae always makes me think of trailer parks though, sorry.

Only1scoop · 08/08/2015 14:48

Piper makes me think of the Piper Alpha disaster....

Also think it's a bit tastiqual especially with Rae.

But you not double barrelling it which is great news.

Only1scoop · 08/08/2015 14:49

Showing my age again Confused

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/08/2015 14:59

Ramona is much nicer than Rae. Isla is also super popular and will date hugely. Poppy Ramona or Piper Ramona are both nice.

Only1scoop · 08/08/2015 15:01

Ramona is a fabulous name.

TheHobbit · 08/08/2015 15:04

I had a friend name Rae-Anne and she was always complilmented on it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 08/08/2015 15:13

Isola Rae?

Isola is Italian for island, so a very similar vibe to Isla but vastly less common place.

SirChenjin · 08/08/2015 15:24

Love Piper Smile (despite being a teenager in Aberdeen and very close to the oil industry when it went up)

CruCru · 08/08/2015 15:59

Isla is a pretty name but half the girls in the Science Museum seem to be called it. I wonder whether it's the new Isobel.

SnozzberryPie · 08/08/2015 16:59

Ramona is lovely!

hashtagwhatever · 08/08/2015 19:11

Sophia Rae has a ring to it?

Szeli · 08/08/2015 19:23

Raynor for Raymond?

Isla Rayor

or I do like Imogen and Piper as alternatives

emmalouise90 · 08/08/2015 23:06

Okay so we have decided we may like Poppy Rae what do people think? The ira comments really put us off x

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/08/2015 23:09

Poppy is lovely. Still prefer Ramona, or even Raya or Rayna?

emmalouise90 · 08/08/2015 23:39

I like them but not my sort of taste not any offence :) I like Elsie (was my great grandmas name) but OH not keen he does like Poppy though he always mentioned Skye and sienna but I'm not as keen x
