John - too boring?

No! I think I marginally prefer Jon or Jonathan, but John is a fine name.

It's my DH's name and I think he's sort of alright so I say no, not too boring.

Johnnie is good too, although only if John is on the birth certificate. Not keen on Jonti, but I think that's usually given to people called Jonathan.

No I quite like it because it's rarely used for little boys these days. My parents' neighbours have a 6 year old John and I always think how sweet it is.

I think it's lovely, I know a baby one, it's gorgeous on him. I'm not a fan of Johnny or Jonty but John is one of my favourites.

there was a thread in Mumsnet years ago about Johns, a few people said that there was always something a bit peculiar about them. I went throught the enormous lists of Johns I know... Oh well... I'm afraid I have to agree.

John = perfectly good name.

Always something a bit peculiar about them! I must remember to mention that to my dad, who is a John, and is no more peculiar than the next person. Ditto my cousin John.

I do find it a bit boring myself and know too many in the 50+/Uncle category.

It was given to some 570 boys in 2013 so not exactly over used these days, but can't decide if it suffers too much from preponderance of old Johns around! Do like it though.

I think there are nicer names.

I like Jonathan. As it has a choice of Jon/nat/Nathan/jo as nn if you don't want to use your full name all time.

My lovely lovely BIL is called John, as is my lovely, lovely cousin, so yes I think it's a great name (grandfather was a John too, but always known as Jack)

There are a lack of John's these days. I'd probably use Johnny day to day but register as John. (I also lurve Jonty as a nn for Jonathan)

Being Australian though my cousin is known as Johnno!

Only know one child called John - definitely due a renaissance

Lovely and classic. Works with almost all surnames. Easy to spell.

Much much nicer than its traditional nn Jack, which has elbowed it out in recent years.

A John can always be called Jack, so it's two for the price of one.
