Ds1 is due today and after 9 months of stewing over a name for him ( feel like all the ones I love are spoken for by friends and family's kids) my brother in law has just named his puppy Ted. I could cry. Especially as he named his son Rex which to me is a better dog name..
We had decided a few days ago on Ted Sidney E... But feel that we can't use it now.
Any other Ted-like names we might like? Middle name is Sidney and surname begins with an E.

Make it Edmund, Edwin or Edgar (further options are available). You can still call him Ted, but there will be more choice.

Really don't like the long versions of Ted, plus our surname begins with an e so would sound silly. I really don't get having a long by name if it'll never be used? Plus if he does like Ted he could drop the t and be Ed.

One of my cousins and a friend used DDog's name for their children.

DDog was there first.

When I met my DiL to be, I had 2 dogs and a cat.

Do you think they'll spend much time together? If so it will be confusing for a small child and any age dog (as they don't really get cleverer with age, lol).

If not, just do it.

I accidentally did this! Got a new puppy and named him and then when SIL was pregnant she told me it was very very close to her favourite boys name and she couldn't believe it when I had called the dog what I called him.
I told her she should still use the name as it's not exactly the same and her son will be around long after the dog will.
I do sometimes call them by the others name by mistake and if she is here with my nephew and I call his name, my dog comes over!
But we laugh about it and hopefully she doesn't mind too much that I sort of stole her baby's name for my dog!

They can be very long-lived My neighbour has a 17 year old JR who is very fit for her age.

We had. A horrible jack Russell who lived next door and barked all day and night. Such an unlikeable wee thing. Poor thing was prob attention starved looking back

That's annoying. You could give him a text/call and ask if he'd consider changing the dog's name. You never know.
Otherwise, either still with it or go for something like Ed, Ned or Teddy.
