Why am I pregnant again ffs? Stupid Catholic upbringing. My body will an unsalvageable wreck and we will be living in penury for the next two decades.

Anyway. Need a girls name. I am utterly devoid of inspiration, being interested only in grab bags of Skips and having naps.

Already have an Agnes and an Enid. Surname Stephens.

Dislike: frilliness; 'ah' endings; 'classic' names.

Like: fabulous names. I was keen on Ramona the last go-round, but think I might have lost my love for it.

Any suggestions?

Vera is fabulous indeed.

I love your dismissal of "North London" names OP Grin

I love your OP but I was expecting truly fabulous, out there names and we got flippin' Vera!! Grin

CrystalMcPistol · 25/05/2015 14:55

I would have thought Enid and Agnes to be very much 'North London' names.

Much prefer Vera to Bridget. I don't think Bridget has the kind of vibe you seem to like at all really.

Agnes, Enid and Vera - tough wartime gals squinting through the smoke of the cigarettes as they adjust their pillbox hats and check their lipstick before seeing if they've got enough coupons for a bag of sugar.

Agnes, Enid and Bridget: three rotund farmer's daughters.

Sophronia · 25/05/2015 15:12

I agree, Agnes, Enid and Vera go very well together.

LeoandBoosmum · 25/05/2015 15:14

I agree that I don't find Vera fabulous. I can't shake off the Vera Duckworth vibe.

SylvaniansAtEase · 25/05/2015 15:14

Oh, and Rita = Rita Ora - I think there'll be quite a few of those over the next few years, so no.

Helen is lovely but seems out of step with your others - no reason why not though. Frances - too pretty pretty against the others, not hard enough. Middle name?

Gretel - bit like Bridget really.

Vera, Valerie, Gloria seem to fit best.

As the -a rule seems to have bent a bit, how about Thora?

rastamam · 25/05/2015 15:18

Betsy?

rastamam · 25/05/2015 15:18

my Grandma was called Vera and she was extremely fabulous! So id defo vote for that!

ZeroFunDame · 25/05/2015 15:23

Yup. They're housemaids who are going to come out of the war a good deal richer and less innocent than they went into it ...

Sudename · 25/05/2015 15:26

Someone suggested Cora up thread.
Think it would go great with your other two names

queentroutoftrouts · 25/05/2015 15:45

Mabel

ClementineAndCordelia · 25/05/2015 16:28

I think Mabel would be fabulous - especially with the other two names .

SirVixofVixHall · 25/05/2015 16:28

Rita is one the many pet names for Margaret/Margeurite/Marguerita. Rita Hayworth was a Marguerita.
Miriam?
Lena?
Harriet?
Marina?
Will mull over this now and try and think of ones you might like.
Has Verity been suggested? Probably has.

outtolunchagain · 25/05/2015 17:15

Loving this thread , not keen on Vera I am afraid but love Cora or what about Hilda , my GM was Hilda Florence and her sisters were Phyllis , Edna, and Eileen or what about Blanche for a real thirties vibe .

MistyMeena · 25/05/2015 17:19

ZeroFunDame · 25/05/2015 17:41

Blanche was tempted away from her job in the kitchen of the big house by a smooth talking city valet. Changed her name (from Mabel) and struck out for a life on stage. She's doing well now - but she'll end her days in the very sleaziest Soho bar ...

Stupid Catholic upbringing? Weird OP!

MitziKinsky · 25/05/2015 18:30

Well, I thought it was a funny OP! Grin
