I really like Axl (spelt that way, for some reason)
Honest opinions?
I'm not sure I can imagine calling a baby Axl but I do love it, especially with our surname as it sounds very rock and roll.

Be kind but honest :p
If we have a girl she will be Tabitha.

I prefer the spelling Axel (Axl Rose spelled Axl that way to make an anagram of 'oral sex')

CaptainFabulous · 07/04/2015 13:02

Hmm it's not to my taste. The 'oral sex' thing always goes through my head when I hear it. It's got quite a hard, VERY masculine sound, and I suppose it might just not suit every wee boy.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2015 13:03

I hope for your baby's sake it's a girl!

Crownjewel · 07/04/2015 13:05

Not keen, sorry.

ScotsWhaHae · 07/04/2015 13:05

You'd have to go with Axel.

I love it, was vetoed by my husband so none of my boys have it but I still think it's a great name!

Crownjewel · 07/04/2015 13:06

Sorry about double postBlush

twirlypoo · 07/04/2015 13:08

I know an axel, and it always strikes me as not fitting him somehow. I was also mega curious about meeting his parents, who were just ordinary middle aged / middle class people.... I don't know.... It didn't fit somehow!

Useful post soupdragon...

Thanks all :)

Glad to have been of help.

Floggingmolly · 07/04/2015 14:02

It's like a way of using up random letters on a monopoly board. Awful.

chickensaresafehere · 07/04/2015 14:04

Love it (but to be honest Axl Rose is abit of a knob now,but in his heyday )!!!!

nauticant · 07/04/2015 14:07

Like others, the term oral sex immediately came to mind.

Treaclepie19 · 07/04/2015 15:34

That's true chickens!

We have an incredibly long list so I think eventually we will find a name we love.

Ignore people like SoupDragon, that really irritates me! Don't think they have/had mothers that taught them if there was nothing nice to be said, don't say anything at all! Must have been boredom.
Anyway, I do love the name Axl/Axel and it was sort of on my list as I'm expecting a baby boy, but as someone else said, I can't get over the fact that it is really quite masculine. I've also got a habit of shortening names or making them sound cutesy for nicknames, and you can't really do that with Axl (obviously that may not be a problem for you!Grin).

GerundTheBehemoth · 07/04/2015 16:29

Axl makes me think of axolotls. But oddly Axel (which I prefer) doesn't.

ChrisQuean · 07/04/2015 16:35

Mmmmmmm not keen to be honest. I know a lovely little Axel, but his parents are both Swedish and its a common name there. I think Axl Rose and the anagram too.

BigfootFilesHisToesInYourTea · 07/04/2015 16:49

Axyl is another spelling variant. (Though to me, that looks a bit like a medical product name?)

Axton is a name of Old English origin.

Though if you're going for rock and roll names, what about Trent (Reznor)? Though the river association may be a dealbreaker!

CaptainFabulous · 07/04/2015 16:59

Oh yeah! Imagine a 40 year old Actuary named Axl...just nope. Grin

Ignore people like SoupDragon, that really irritates me!

How about the others who said they don't like the name?
How about those who said it reminded them of oral sex?
How about you make personal attacks on them as well?

At least I said I liked Tabitha. "Kind but honest"

Treaclepie19 · 07/04/2015 17:49

There's really no need to argue.
I know it's very much a marmite name.

I still like it, but like I say we have a very long list!

Why not Captain?

RL20 · 07/04/2015 18:22

SoupDragon apologies that you took offence, I just seem to see a lot of unnecessary comments on the Baby Names section.
Of corse anyone throwing out a personal name choice is going to get positive and negative comments but I was replying to the OP's comment of 'Helpful comment SoupDragon...' Which may or may not have been sarcastic, I don't know.
With RE to the oral sex comments, I hadn't seen the OP comment back to any of those hence my reason for not doing either.
Anyway, apologies again

scrivette · 07/04/2015 18:26

I like it, I haven't heard of the Oral Sex connection before.
