Why the hell would you saddle your daughter with a name like Maiden? Confused It's cruel.

Only1scoop · 27/02/2015 09:12

And to be honest it's an adjective for a spinster so not the best choice maybe Op....any others on your list?

Only1scoop · 27/02/2015 09:12

Baylor and Ballons Grin

fattymcfatfat · 27/02/2015 09:13

oh and just to clarify. .edgy? how? because of iron maiden? hardly anyone I know knows who iron maiden are never mind little children! (except my DS and DD )

PrimroseEverdeen · 27/02/2015 09:14

Awful, as is Saylor. Don't do it!

I like some of the other suggestions on the thread.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/02/2015 09:15

Sounds like an elderly virgin to me. Or a boat. Sailor is becoming more popular? Where are you?

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 27/02/2015 09:17

I would use a name that could be part of a sentence

The maiden rose from ....

And it sounds like a boat I'm afraid.

SoupDragon · 27/02/2015 09:17

I do not for one single second believe that anyone thinks the name Maiden is "edgy" because of Iron Maiden. Or that Maiden is a good name for a girl at all actually.

Bakeoffcake · 27/02/2015 09:17

Rose is lovely.

Maiden is awful.

MadeInChorley · 27/02/2015 09:22

Maiden Chorley is lovely! Grin

Um, no. Sorry, don't like Maiden Rose. Sounds like something to do with boats or virginity. I'm praying you don't have the surname "Head"

SoupDragon · 27/02/2015 09:23

Please tell me your surname is Head. Or Hood.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 27/02/2015 09:25

Surname has to be Name, surely?

YoniMitchell · 27/02/2015 09:26

Really? That poor kid.

Never heard of 'Saylor' before, so I wouldn't be worried about it being too 'popular'.

juneau · 27/02/2015 09:28

Its awful, sorry. As is Saylor (which I've never heard of either).

How about you choose an actual name, rather than a random word that will just lead to the child being the butt of jokes?

UniS · 27/02/2015 09:28

Down here in deepest Devon, girls are still called " little maid" by older folk.

Branleuse · 27/02/2015 09:29

it sounds pretty but it means virgin, so maiden rose just sounds like a euphemism for virginity.
Doesn't mean you cant use it. After all, Cher called her son Chastity didmt she

florascotia · 27/02/2015 09:33

Very sorry to sound so critical, but, as others have said, maiden means 'a girl who has not had sex'. It's a definition, not a name. Until recently, 'Maiden' or 'Maid' (the two words have the same origin and mean the same) was also a patronising way of referring to young women and keeping them in their place - as in the Victorian saying: 'Be good, sweet maid, and let who will be clever'.

As I'm sure you know, the original Iron Maiden was a ghastly torture device, and that's not a nice thing to be named after, however much you like the band.

As a teenager, a girl called 'Maiden' will get teased and feel horribly embararassed.

As an adult woman, when she's pregnant/a mother, she's going to feel pretty silly....

RosaliesGinBottle · 27/02/2015 09:33

Maidlin Rose

PunkrockerGirl · 27/02/2015 09:35

No, sorry. She wouldn't thank you!

HermioneWeasley · 27/02/2015 09:35

I call wind up.

PuppyMonkey · 27/02/2015 09:37

I'm imagining one of those comedy situations like you see in films...

What name?

Maiden.

No your first name...

It's Maiden.

No, not your maiden name, your first name.

Maiden

You're not understanding me...

Argh!!!!

Grin

Its not good. You should do Maiden Marian and then she can be Maid Marian for short.

Rose is lovely.

thoth · 27/02/2015 09:38

Belinda is unusual but girly.
Maiden isn't a name. Nor is Saylor.
I'm hoping it's just the PG hormones! (Dh wanted to call PFB Gallant if it was a boy, thankfully was a girl)

PMSL at "Gallant" Grin

HellKitty · 27/02/2015 09:40

I'm not normally a grammar nazi or pick up on people's spelling but 'Saylor' really makes my teeth itch.
