DH and I are expecting twins (boy and girl) and we really like slightly out-there hippy surfy names! Any suggestions?

Marisa and Finn

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 16/12/2014 19:18

stella one of those is mine. Never realised I was a surfer chick. Grin

Hedgehogsbuzz1 · 16/12/2014 19:23

I think OP should give us her favourite joke name and favourite serious name so far

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 16/12/2014 19:25

Ripcurl and Quicksilver would be your best bet, I would think Grin

BikeRunSki · 16/12/2014 19:31

Storm and Doone

River and Winter

Vince and Breeze

Congrats on the twins, I love unusual names!

andnowforsomemoreofthesame · 16/12/2014 19:47

If I was a hippy surfer I'd have a girl called Maeva, which means 'welcome' in Tahiti.

elQuintoConyoIKNOWHIM · 16/12/2014 21:36

Well, to be fair to the OP I do know a woman in Cornwall who paints the most beautiful surboards, for surfers not for hanging on your shabby shit wall called Lamorna Penrose .

Such a lovely name.

ElfriqueTheSantaHelpingLizard · 16/12/2014 21:44

Meh. I already know a Cqumber.

Dune or Slater for a boy and
Storm, Skye or Wave for a girl

Although names of famous beaches might be a good idea.

*part of this post may be a lie

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 16/12/2014 22:31

Elfrique - surely that should be Qcumber? Xmas Wink

elQuintoConyoIKNOWHIM · 17/12/2014 08:07

I've got it! I'VE GOT IT!

Boy: C-Q

Girl: Cumber

Two names/one name. Yoonique and Gawjus Xmas Grin

(I fear OP may never come back - to MN!)

BreeVDKamp · 17/12/2014 08:56

Aww poor OP!

Hawksmoor!! That's a steak restaurant, not very lentil weaver-y Grin

I still stand by my previous comment that surfers and hippies are v different. The hippies I know are the dancing naked around a campfire, whittling wood types.

BreeVDKamp · 17/12/2014 08:59

And play the mandolin and the oud.

I was once visiting a hippy commune North of San Francisco and we were in an art gallery. A lady in long flowing clothes ran into the gallery and wailed:

"Come quickly, come quickly!!! Jessica is dancing and Frank is playing the oud!!!"

The gallery owner was like, "sorry guys, I've got to close!"

Legendary story in my family, we were all Grin

So there are 2 'hippy' names, Frank and Jessica!

fanjodisfunction · 17/12/2014 10:42

sitka met a very cool beach girl in the states with this name

MollyAir · 17/12/2014 11:37

I hope the OP takes it all in good part. There are a lot of very good and usable names here, as well as funny ones. I approached it as a kind of brainstorm and put down obvious jokes as well as ones I am quite serious about.

Congratulations on expecting twins, OP; and thanks for helping me with insomnia. (Now there's a girl's name....) I am genuinely grateful.

I missed out a small c after the q Blush

A little gentle playing, not being mean to OP. There are indeed some nice names when you read through.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/12/2014 12:23

I've come across quite a few 'surfy' types and they seem to have remarkably normal names. So, Sarah or Emma for a girl, Dan or Dave or Martin for a boy. Grin

MollyAir · 17/12/2014 14:14

Thing about jokes is, it does bump the thread. So I hope the OP has had a lot more genuine suggestions as a result of the jokes.

RonaldMcDonald · 17/12/2014 14:17

Dudley ...shorten it to Dude

CharlotteLucasOliveBranch · 17/12/2014 15:15

Hope you aren't offended, OP, you really caught our imaginations with this request! Even though some of us are having a smile or two, you may well find the names of your dreams somewhere here! So here are a few more possibles:
Samphire
Ling
Marram
Ossian
Ottilie (not much surf about the last two, perhaps, but they have a certain je ne said quoi)

SurfsUp1 · 18/12/2014 20:00

I know siblings who are Ari and Sia. Love it - unusual and cool without being stoopid.

SurfsUp1 · 18/12/2014 20:01

Oh, or the name Moana means ocean.
