Care to share? Grin

And also, did you tell people beforehand or is it best to just announce once they're here?

winter those are gorgeous and all go so well together.

Ixia is also really beautiful. Very Egyptian/Persian sounding (to my geographically ignorant ears!).

minge I really like it - how did you come up with it? I worry about facing mixed reactions but I guess it's a live by the sword, die by the sword kind of scenario if you're going down the unusual route.

I love the name Red. If I had a boy, it would be between Red, Rex or Bear.

I know a female Jude and also have a friend called Tuesday.

Most out-there girls name I have heard is Mitstrel. Had never heard it before or since.

ZebraZeebra · 21/11/2014 21:41

You know a Tuesday - wonderful! Does she like her name? It is lovely.

Thanks Zebra DD2 & DD3 have more common names -I often wish we had been more adventurous with their names as well.

If you're going down the unusual route, IMO it's much better to present it as a fait accompli. "We've called her January".

Actually, I'm a firm believer in doing that with any name. Someone will always say "oh, the kid who was sick behind the Christmas tree in my primary school was called Dave" if you say you're thinking of calling your child Dave.

peppaontheceiling · 21/11/2014 21:42

Test...

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 21/11/2014 21:43

Yes she does. She also has a very unusual surname and is an unusual character so it really suits her Smile

TiggyD · 21/11/2014 21:44

"Dd is Antogine....

We call her T I G G Y

Not that unusual I guess but don't hear it everyday"

I do.

ZebraZeebra · 21/11/2014 21:45

Yes definitely agree Toby! I threw Luna into the pot and DH said "Oh she'll get called Lunatic" but you should here some of the names he suggests and defends! You're right, anyone could attach anything to any name.

Only1scoop · 21/11/2014 21:45

Toby

Agree....

If I'm blessed with another dd I may call her Puberina and bet someone's neighbour knew one in the nativity....Grin

SugarMiceInTheRain · 21/11/2014 21:45

We have a Meredith too Toby. She gets Merry for short but lots of people mishear it as Mary. In a way I wish we had been more adventurous with our boys' names now.

DillyDallyDaydreamer · 21/11/2014 21:46

One of my daughters has an unusual name, she's almost 1 we thought it would be shortened but it hasn't yet.

ZebraZeebra · 21/11/2014 21:46

I'm also quite partial to Lux - I think that was a character in the Virgin Suicides?

OP posts:
Only1scoop · 21/11/2014 21:46

Tiggy D

I've seen you on threads and wondered if you actually 'is one'

I guess I know now....

Do you like your name??

ZebraZeebra · 21/11/2014 21:47

Or maybe in thinking of Lux Luther Grin

OP posts:
cerealqueen · 21/11/2014 21:47

Puberina, she'll be called Pubes for short. Please don't.

Only1scoop · 21/11/2014 21:48

Ok Cereal ill rethink Confused

ZebraZeebra · 21/11/2014 21:48

Oh wait no, that was Lex.

SHUT UP zebra!

OP posts:
TiggyD · 21/11/2014 21:49

Not my actual name, but a regular nickname/alias.

There's a song called Tiggy by Bill Kenwright.

Darquesse · 21/11/2014 21:52

Some lovely names here, especially loving Meredith.

I know of a Tallulah and a Rainbeau Lilly.

peppaontheceiling · 21/11/2014 21:56

Only on MN could we have an unusual names thread, and someone has already mentioned DD's Grin. Mine has the same name as tobys DD.

It's not a kooky name, but I think it's well down the popularity charts. Which is weird because I often get people saying what a lovely name it is.

almapudden · 21/11/2014 21:56

Lux was a character in the Virgin Suicides! Beautiful name, means "light" in Latin.

peppaontheceiling · 21/11/2014 21:58

Oh, and sugar too Smile.

MingeCraft · 21/11/2014 21:59

Blimey, I'm struggling with this name changing lark Grin

So dh's great (great?) grandfather was a labourer in the spire of St Mary Redcliffe church in Bristol. When dh's grandfather was born, he was allowed to be christened there despite being of the wrong social class because of the labouring on the spire. He had the name as a middle name.

When it came to ds, we were finding it very hard to agree on a name but when dh suggested it, we both really liked it...

How do you pronounce Antigone please? Bare in mind I thought Hermione was pronounced Her-me-own until I saw the Harry Potter films Blush. I like Tiggy, Afton and Merry a lot!
