So if DC3 is a girl, I am keen on an older style name, appreciating many people may find them fusty and not their thing. Which couple of these do you like and which do you think should be avoided like the plague?! Thanks.

Audrey
Dora
Greta
Lois
Victoria/ Vita
Iris
Emmeline
Sylvia/ Sylvie
Rilla
Esme
Rosemary/ Romy
Rosalind
Naomi
Evelyn
Juliet
Rosa

The only one I don't like is Rilla
I really like Rosemary and Romy and Rosalind
Iris is nice too

BirdintheWings · 22/10/2014 09:58

Dislike Dora, Greta, Rilla and Lois (though I do have a lovely cousin of that name -- sorry Lois!).

The rest are rather nice.

Squtternutbaush · 22/10/2014 10:10

I don't mind Esme, Evelyn, Naomi and Rosa.

Don't like the others.

WowserBooooooooooooser · 22/10/2014 10:14

Audrey and Greta would be on my list if i was to have a girl.

Do you like Rita?

WowserBooooooooooooser · 22/10/2014 10:15

Oh, also like Iris but think it may become popular like Lily, Isla etc

Enb76 · 22/10/2014 10:16

Love the name Audrey. On similar lines I also like Maud.

WowserBooooooooooooser · 22/10/2014 10:18

Me too Enb - I also like Claude for a boy!

SurfsUp1 · 22/10/2014 10:22

Audrey - dull unless you're Hepburn
Dora - the explorer
Greta - Nice
Lois - Lane
Victoria/ Vita - Classic, elegant
Iris - Eyeball
Emmeline - Pretty
Sylvia/ Sylvie - Not my normal style but I do like this one.
Rilla - sounds like the end of a word.
Esme - not for me.
Rosemary/ Romy - ok
Rosalind - nice, strong, good nns
Naomi - no opinion
Evelyn - pretty
Juliet - OK
Rosa - Nice, would be expecting a spanish woman.

AuntieStella · 22/10/2014 10:22

Audrey - Coronation Street (current, long standing character)
Dora - OK (Explorer)
Greta - OK
Lois - OK (Superman)
Victoria/ Vita - lovely
Iris - don't like (yes, I know goddess, but always think eyeball)
Emmeline - OK
Sylvia/ Sylvie - prefer Sylvie
Rilla - don't like (what about Marilla, as in Anne of Green Gables?)
Esme - OK
Rosemary/ Romy - like
Rosalind - lovely
Naomi - like
Evelyn - OK
Juliet - lovely

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 22/10/2014 10:25

Like Juliet, Iris and Lois. Also like Audrey although I feel like I shouldn't for some reason!

babyblabber · 22/10/2014 10:27

love esme and rosa. Juliet is beautiful too but would probably get shortened to jules at some stage, ugh.

MaudantWit · 22/10/2014 10:28

My favourites there are Audrey and Naomi.

Leeds2 · 22/10/2014 10:30

My favourite two are Iris and Romy.

I don't like Audrey, and I wouldn't use Dora because of the Explorer link.

SoftSheen · 22/10/2014 10:34

I like Greta, Iris, Emmeline or Rosalind.

Dislike Lois and Evelyn.

Allalonenow · 22/10/2014 10:37

My favourites from your list are Sylvie, Romy, Rosalind and Juliet, also like Emmeline.

Dora - the Explorer
Evelyn and Rosa, too close to wildly popular names ATM

Not keen on Audrey, Greta, Iris, Esme, Naomi.
Don't like Rilla.

HowlyBabblyBansheeeeeee · 22/10/2014 10:39

My choices would be Rosalind, Evelyn or Juliet. All beautiful flowing names.

Least favourite are Greta, Dora, Esme and Rilla. They sound harsh to me.

UnrelatedToElephants · 22/10/2014 10:40

Rosemary - cos then you get Romy and Rosa in the mix.

callamia · 22/10/2014 10:43

I love Dora and Rosa. Emmeline is also really cool.

AugustaGloop · 22/10/2014 10:46

I like these ones in the following order of preference:

  1. Juliet
  2. Rosalind
3= Iris 3= Emmeline 4=Sylvie 4=Greta 4=Evelyn
KlokkenVin · 22/10/2014 10:49

Audrey -ok, I think less pretty sounding names are coming into fashion next, so it will sound better in a few years.

Dora - no, just way too ugly
Greta - love it
Lois - love it
Victoria/ Vita - mm no
Iris - no, quite a harsh ugly sound
Emmeline - ok but way too bovine. Emily is 'over' now so use that, she'd be the only one in her class because Emily is not being given to babies any more
Sylvia/ Sylvie - ok. I think it will explode in to popularity like Ruby did. Susie less predictable.
Rilla - no!

Esme- ok. ezmay is prettier but wrong.

Rosemary/ Romy - like this one! quirky but pretty
Rosalind - too hard to say, like Belinda though
Naomi - love it
Evelyn - no
Juliet - love it!
Rosa - ok, rosemary more original and could give any rosa/rosie nn

WowserBooooooooooooser · 22/10/2014 10:55

Audrey is really pretty sounding though? Maybe it is just the connotations that make it less so for some people?

KlokkenVin · 22/10/2014 10:59

No because I did not watch coronation street growing up. I do not have a UK accent so to me it sounds quite a strong name, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You look at names like Rachel, Karen, Susan, Claire....... all out of fashion. Nothing wrong with them but they are stronger than the millies and lilys and ellas. And, fwiw, jmo, i think the time for sstronger names is juuuust round the corner. Pretty is OVER

BlueStarsAtNight · 22/10/2014 11:15

Audrey - quite like
Dora - dislike (explorer)
Greta - love
Lois - dislike
Victoria/ Vita - actually hate
Iris - ok
Emmeline - dislike, too fussy and will get called Emily all the time
Sylvia/ Sylvie - love Sylvia
Rilla - really dislike, doesn't sound like a real name
Esme - dislike, faddy
Rosemary/ Romy - dislike, too prim
Rosalind - ok
Naomi - dislike, sounds whiny to me
Evelyn - pretty, but too popular
Juliet - really like
Rosa - really like

IvyMay · 22/10/2014 11:23

There are a lot of great names on your list. This is just absolute personal prejudice, but I wouldn't choose Evelyn though - it can be pronounced
"Evil-in" as well as the more usual ev-ill-in and I always associate the name with the v creepy Browning poem "Beautiful Evelyn Hope is dead"

farmerswifey · 22/10/2014 11:28

I Love Juliet and Victoria

However when I hear the name Naomi - I automatically revert back to schoolgirl mode and think 'I moan' - backwards.
