Is my DH right and is Clover awful?

He likes the name in itself, but says she will be bullied etc because of her name and the association with butter. We both work in education and I did get him to admit to not being able to name a single incident of a child being bullied solely because of their name.

I love it, I was a huge fan of 'What Katy Did' and Clover was my favourite.

He says if I can put Clover butter out of business, or find five people who don't think of butter straight away then I can use it...

I thought of butter. Or a name for a cow.

PestoSurfissimos · 17/10/2014 08:06

I think it's a lovely name.

Forget about brand names, they come & go.

Kantha · 17/10/2014 08:06

He is right. Sorry.

SauvignonBlank · 17/10/2014 08:08

Yes sorry, read the title and thought this was a thread about your DH not liking clover on his toast. What about Flora Smile

Penfold007 · 17/10/2014 08:08

Nice name for a calf or a pack of butter, sorry but DH is right.

Only1scoop · 17/10/2014 08:09

It's "chucklebutty" Smile

BeckAndCall · 17/10/2014 08:09

Sorry - didnt think of butter but did think of a cow.

if you like the opening syllable, have you thought of 'Chloe"?

AmandaTanen · 17/10/2014 08:10

I did wonder why there was a thread about butter in the baby names section. Sorry, it is cute for a baby though.

HavanaSlife · 17/10/2014 08:11

I thought he didnt like the butter until I read this was in baby names

Fixerupperz · 17/10/2014 08:18

I saw somewhere on tv this week and there was a girl called clovah... Im not a fan sorry.

AuntieStella · 17/10/2014 08:19

Sorry, I'm with your DH. I thought of cows and butter.

CurlsLDN · 17/10/2014 08:19

I absolutely love it. Unusual but not wacky. People who meet your dd will associate it with her, not butter. Also it's not even a leading brand anymore, it's not like you're calling her lurpak!

I say go for it

TotleighTowers · 17/10/2014 08:20

I think it is very pretty - my first thought is What Katy Did and my second is of the journalist called Clover Stroud.

Admittedly I also think it sounds a bit like a name someone might give a cow, but not in a bad way. Don't think of the butter at all (don't think of margarine with Flora either but think Flora/margarine is a stronger association).

It would be a cute nickname, but too bovine for everyday life, for me.

fieldfare · 17/10/2014 08:21

Sounds like a cow, sorry!

Floralnomad · 17/10/2014 08:22

I instantly thought cow ,not butter .

Littleturkish · 17/10/2014 08:24

Ok mixed reactions so far- that's not too bad!

My argument was "but we have lurpack!"

Clodagh is his suggestion, but to me that just sounds like someone saying Clover wrong.

I think we'd use Clo as a nn, Chloe is nice, but no Clover!

Oh we all love clover

SomeSunnySunday · 17/10/2014 08:24

I love it, and it reminds me of What Katy Did. However DH is firmly in agreement with your DH, and refuses to even consider it for soon-to-be-born DD Sad.

I view it as similar to Flora - I've seen a few people on here calling "margarine" whenever this name is mentioned, but in RL we know a couple of little Floras for whom the margarine connection doesn't seem to be an issue (and I have never thought anything other than "lovely name").

JeanneDeMontbaston · 17/10/2014 08:27

I thought of What Katy Did, of course (have you read In High Valley, where she turns into stepford fiancee, too? It is odd. Great review here. cassandraparkin.wordpress.com/2011/11/16/adventures-in-trash-clover-and-in-the-high-valley-by-susan-coolidge-possibly/).

But - sorry - to me it's a guinea-pig's name.

rachel234 · 17/10/2014 08:28

I don't find it very feminine.

LizzieMint · 17/10/2014 08:31

Sorry, I immediately thought of a cow, then butter.

Cric · 17/10/2014 08:33

I know a clover. I never think of butter when talking to her. It is a lovely name Smile

ManuscriptsDontBurn · 17/10/2014 08:33

I love it, I also immediately thought of Clover Carr...
