I saw this one today. Lileigh.

Not saying it's good or bad. Never seen it before that's all.

My DH and I are having the baby name discussion at the minute. He wants to put Ys in everything. Vyvian for fucks sake. I despair.

MrsHathaway · 11/10/2014 17:00

New to me too.

I wouldn't pronounce that the same as Lily, though - I'd want to stress the second syllable.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/10/2014 17:44

I can see it would be Lily when I look at it properley but first glance it makes no sense and people would always be asking what does that say. She must get fed up explaining or at least her parents must. It's nice though.

Alyx80 · 11/10/2014 17:47

My son was at preschool with a Leigho. How ridiculous, I hate stupid spellings lol.

chantico · 11/10/2014 17:48

I thought Vyvyan was a long-established Welsh version?

ShadowStar · 11/10/2014 18:10

I was thinking more like Lila at first glance. But after considering it further, I suppose they're probably aiming for Lily.

PillForgettingIdiot · 11/10/2014 18:43

Yeah Vyvyan is - for a man. He doesn't want that. He wants Vivian for a girl, but with a Y. He's a pain in the arse.

PillForgettingIdiot · 11/10/2014 18:44

A a quick google has told me Vyvyan is unisex. Still, he's not having his spelling!

Aherdofmims · 11/10/2014 21:13

I hate all unnecessary extra letters.

I even hate the spelling Claire for not being Clare.

I am a hardcore name purist.

Aherdofmims · 11/10/2014 21:14

Also Anne (nb it should be ann, though, not an)

TwigsRidesAgain · 11/10/2014 21:24

Been told it is Lily.

KatieKaye · 11/10/2014 21:25

Claire is the French spelling. And it's a French name meaning bright or pure.

I don't mind Clair, although that's traditionally the masculine version (clair de lune).

But I detest Clare - it just looks wrong without the "i".

I'm a hardcore purist too!

BikeRunSki · 11/10/2014 21:30

I went to school with a Jazelle. She so suited it.

MartinClunesMartinClunes · 11/10/2014 21:45

I read a story in a magazine the other day and the girl was call tai'la.

Just why?

SanityClause · 11/10/2014 21:48

I have an unusual spelling of an ordinary name. It's actually a long established spelling in my family, not a whim of my parents.

Nonetheless, it's a pain in the arse.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 11/10/2014 21:52

I know a Hermyonney and a Amelyah.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/10/2014 22:13

Adher. I'm a Clare as apose to Claire. I hate my name but like the way it's spelt different.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/10/2014 22:16

My d.d is Molly. I was going to spell it Moli but written down it looked daft. I could have actually spelt it like Liliegh but Moliegh or Molli or Mollee.
I'm kicking myself I never thought more about it now

Showy · 11/10/2014 22:22

I know a Murfee and Mylea.

Iheartautumn · 11/10/2014 22:23

Leah spelt as lia/leia

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 11/10/2014 22:32

There's an Alyzzabeth in my son's high school.

It makes my blood run cold!

nooka · 11/10/2014 22:46

Leia isn't the same name as Leah though. It's not pronounced the same way (lay - ya rather than Lee-a) and has different origins (think George Lucas).

Of course the other thing to bear in mind is that if the name was originally in a different script (eg Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew etc) then there may be no 'right' Latin script version.

WaitingForMe · 11/10/2014 22:47

I have a less common (but proper) spelling of a fairly common name and that's annoying enough having to spell it for people.

There's an interesting chapter in Freakanomics as to why made-up spellings are tied to less success in life.

My cousin called her son Dylon, in an attempt to have a "different" spelling of dylan. Ffs.
