I saw this one today. Lileigh.

Not saying it's good or bad. Never seen it before that's all.

I know an Anaïs whose name is actually spelled correctly, but the parents pronounce it wrong. They call her Anay instead of Ann-ay-ees. They pronounce the perfumecwrong as well.
And I know a Kraig. His whole family have C names spelled with a K.

Don't know any personally, but I know there are some girls (thank you name stats) called nevaeh-rae.

Ear-heaven. FFS.

WrappedInABlankie · 22/10/2014 01:58

I'm a Josephene not a Josephine as my dad said it should be pronounced Joseph-fine

Never found a personalised keyring on school trips and my phone auto corrects it every time Hmm

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 22/10/2014 02:08

I've seen Ayrille and Sharlett. Just 2 that stick with me S wtf! I'm sure I've seen others.

There's a little girl at dd's school named after a precious stone but spelt wrong. (Think "Dimond".) I spent ages believing it was a misprint by school on the class list.

I don't get it - mum seems pretty sensible and we love in the age of google.

My daughter is called Gabriela, yes, with one L. We can spell, we weren't trying to be clever or funny, and yes it is irritating having people Mia-spell it. But DH is half Spanish/half Italian. We wanted names that worked in all languages. In Spanish a double L is pronounced either as a Y sound or a J sound (depending on where in Spain you are from), so we used the Spanish spelling which then sounds the same as in English.

My second daughter is Luisa, no O, I can still spell, but her name isn't Louisa (said with the soft Z sound), it is pronounced with a S sound, so Loo-ee-Sa.

How about Ashleigh for Ashley, Alekzandra for Alexandra and Maddisynn instead of Madison.

Why do need to add extra vowels and double letters.

Szeli · 22/10/2014 09:58

middle Anaïs was kicked off my list as i didn't like the prounciation 'anay' that all the websites/books etc said it was.

I'd grown up thinking it was 'ah-nay-ees' but was left disappointed now you come here and tell me you've been told the other way Angry

let's hope dc2 is a girl Grin

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 22/10/2014 12:48

I think you've misunderstood me Szeli. The diaeresis (two dots) over a vowel when there are two vowels next to each other in a word indicate that both vowels should be pronounced separately. So Ah-nay-ees is correct.

Szeli · 22/10/2014 14:01

nope i understood. i was told ah-nay-ees was wrong much to my chargrin

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 22/10/2014 15:59

Anay is silly. Ah-nay-ees is quite nice.

If you're going to give a child an unusal name, at least learn to pronounce it properly.
