Fleur is beautiful, Luna is weird! Smile
(Only my personal opinion though)

Luna

Fleur reminds me of Grantlys wife off Waterloo road!

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 13/09/2014 18:21

Both absolutely lovely, can't go wrong with either. But I prefer Luna.

Floop · 13/09/2014 18:22

Luna just doesn't sound nice.

Loo-nah. Not a fan.

Bankholidaybaby · 13/09/2014 18:22

Fleur. Luna will get called loony.

BunnyLebowski · 13/09/2014 18:30

Don't love Luna but it's infinitely better than Fleur which sounds like someone vomiting.

Leeds2 · 13/09/2014 18:38

I prefer the sound of Luna, but I would worry that she would be called Loony/Lunatic in the playground.

o0 · 13/09/2014 18:44

Fleur. Lovely name. That and Flora were on my list for last DC but I had a boy.

WittyUsername102 · 13/09/2014 18:47

I like Luna :)

I'm just wondering if people know how to pronounce Fleur correctly its like Fur with an L in it or Blur with an F! Which I think sounds nothing like someone vomiting Confused

Horrace funny that you say that, but I have never read a HP book or seen a HP movie but know via my DB that both names feature in Harry Potter.

I would try to pronounce it as I would read it in French - which doesn't sound a lot like Blur really.

CordeliaClementine · 13/09/2014 19:01

camtt how would you pronounce it?

I listened to an I to an interview with Clemence Posy (who is French and played Fleur in HP) and she pronounced it Flur!

Other (obsessive) research online has also come up with the Flur pronunciation!!!

Don't want to pronouncing my own baby name wrong Blush

Fur and Blur rhyme in my accent!

CordeliaClementine · 13/09/2014 19:12

Yeah Floop that's what I'm saying Fur with an l in it or a blur with an F. Am I making sense or just confusing things Grin

Luna for me, fleur I would pronounce as flur.

Floop · 13/09/2014 19:26

Makes sense now Cordelia! Fleur absolutely rhymes with both fur and Blur!

ralinax294 · 13/09/2014 19:40

Love Luna, hate Fleur.

o0 · 13/09/2014 19:40

Fleur doesn't rhyme with blur or fur to me.

o0 · 13/09/2014 19:43

I say it with an er sound at the end rather than an ur sound.

camtt · 13/09/2014 20:30

I think the 'u' in 'fur and 'blur' is a short single toned sound, whereas I think the 'eu' as pronounced in French is a longer tone and I can't think of a good way to describe what I mean but somehow I would say that 'eu' is more of a mixed sound between 'oo' and 'u'. Certainly, that's always how I have pronounced it when speaking French, which I can do, although as it's not my first language I may certainly make a few mistakes.

camtt · 13/09/2014 20:32

In terms of the names themselves, I would say Fleur could be a nice name, and I would prefer it to Luna, but I have heard some ugly pronunciations of it, including 'Fl-oo-r'

Loz1975 · 13/09/2014 20:38

I have a Fleur. I loved the name as soon as I heard it. It does rhyme with blur.

TheWhispersOfTheGods · 13/09/2014 21:26

Both are lovely.

I'd probably go with Fleur, as it suits an adult woman better than Luna imo.
