Or is it more of a boys name?

I like Penguin but it's very popular around here. There are 4 at my 3 year olds kindergarten.

Have you considered Fiona? It's similar but less common.

ThatBloodyWoman · 12/09/2014 09:10

Oh.
I actually liked it for real.
I will call any future chook, Penguin, as I'm having no more children.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 12/09/2014 10:46

guaranteed Grin

I've been thinking about it, earlier on I said I liked Pengwin, but now I am leaning towards the french spelling Penguinne for a girl, but Puffin for a boy.

Lweji · 12/09/2014 10:57

Puffinne sounds good for a girl as well.

I've just been flicking through a book about indigo children my DM gave me (don't ask). There are messages from three indigo adults/ older children at the back, called Ryan, Cathy and Candice. I would have thought that a name like Penguin would be more befitting an indigo child.

Ilikepie · 13/09/2014 07:14

Oh, yes I see. In that case my children are definitely indigo.

mathanxiety · 14/09/2014 00:23

Ptilopter preferable for those who drive a Chelsea tractor.

mathanxiety · 14/09/2014 00:25

A sister for Ptolemy..

MerryMarigold · 14/09/2014 00:47

OP, have you considered whether the name 'Penguin' may get in the way of your dd becoming the prime minister, or even a mere barrister? It just doesn't seem to carry much gravitas, but that is just mvho.

But by all means, add it to a shortlist and if she really looks like a little Penguin when she's born, then you'll 'know'.

Lweji · 14/09/2014 09:15

I don't know. These days even Tonys can become Prime Ministers.
Alternatively, use it as a middle name. But beware of the first name. Emperor might become confusing as the UK is a monarchy and the Queen might worry (as she's likely to still be in office in 30 years time).
But Adelie as first name would sound lovely for the second female PM.

What about Blue Footed Booby?

Penguin for a girl?
MerryMarigold · 14/09/2014 09:28

Grin. I was thinking of Tony, in the company of Margaret, Harold, David, Winston, John, James, Edward... He overcame his name!

Phoebe is actually a bird name (my DBIL is big in the bird world and insisted on it for his daughter. We were all relieved she wasn't Shag or Booby!).

Jbck · 14/09/2014 10:47

Surely it would be Gweemo? Some people!?

foxinthebox · 14/09/2014 10:51

Mercedes519 · 14/09/2014 14:44

Wow, have just read the Wikipedia entry on indigo children: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigo_children

It is not written by a fan...

Indigo children, according to a pseudoscientific New Age concept, are children who are believed to possess special, unusual and sometimes supernatural traits or abilities.

orangefusion · 14/09/2014 15:44

The indigo child is here to bring us closer to our true essence. We think our minds are separate because of our bodies. These children know differently.

I knew an ornithologist who made a major study of the warblers in the genus Sylvia, so he called his daughter Sylvia. It's lucky he was studying warblers rather than thrushes, or her name would have been Turdus.
