Or is it more of a boys name?

Humboldt! I like it! If I had a baby boy tomorrow, that'd be his middle name, no messing.

Rubberstamp · 11/09/2014 13:27

Definitely a boy's name. Staying with the bird theme, I'd suggest that 'Thrush' is very girly. Generally.

Lweji · 11/09/2014 13:28

And if the first name was Baron, that would be perfect, Gilbert.

BetweenDogandWolf · 11/09/2014 13:29

Only middle name Gilbert? Smile Sadly I don't think I'll get to use it as DH claims that anymore DC would kill him. Sad

Poor man. High blood pressure or was it the breast feeding? Back pain?

Ah(nods head), the Brythonic connection littledidsheknow

I believe the Spanish derivation is Sanguine

ElizabethMedora · 11/09/2014 13:34

JumpJockey in Oxfordshire? The owner of the Annabelinda shop in Oxford had a daughter called Puffin...

penguinsaresmall · 11/09/2014 13:34

I see a life time of name-calling.
Poor child.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 11/09/2014 13:37

We did consider guillemot but worried she might be teased

As a child I vaguely knew a Guillemot Farqueharson. Teased unmercifully in youth, grew in to it as an adult. Very commanding name if I may say so.
Male though Confused
Very pretty younger sister called Sanderling iirc, but she disappointed when she married into a minor branch of the Gloucestershire Sparrows and called her first born Jane. Oh well.

BetweenDogandWolf · 11/09/2014 13:38

Lweji Grin

I see a life time of name-calling.

In particular cold callers. Brrr.

Leeds2 · 11/09/2014 13:43

I think Pingu would be the nn.

Littledidsheknow · 11/09/2014 13:49

Ping for a boy, leeds2, Pinga for a girl.

Littledidsheknow · 11/09/2014 13:50

*Pingu

ShatnersBassoon · 11/09/2014 13:55

Booby and Chough are a bit more classy.

Woozlebear · 11/09/2014 14:05

I like it for a middle name. I'm considering Tarquinius Penguin. Not sure it has sufficient gravitas for a first name?

2kidsintow · 11/09/2014 14:12

Another in Wales here. Yep, it would be Pengwyn and would mean whitehead. Nice.

PoirotsMoustache · 11/09/2014 14:12

I genuinely can't quite work out if this is a wind-up or not Blush

drudgetrudy · 11/09/2014 14:16

Yes -welsh origin -pengwyn for a boy pengwen for a girl. Lovely name OP -wish I'd used it-regret using rather popular names for my DDs-go for it!

UriGeller · 11/09/2014 14:21

Guillemot would have to be pronounced "Geemo" naturally

Aside: I know an Otter, a Panda, a Badger and a Lark. All humans.

Lweji · 11/09/2014 14:21

Really Poirot?
I suppose you need to let it unwind to find out. also pointing out to OP's 3rd post

phantomnamechanger · 11/09/2014 14:22

I've always thought this is a lovely bird.

Would be a very pretty name for a little girl, no? Also fits in with the how/where conceived theme Grin

Naicecuppatea · 11/09/2014 14:23

Waddle load of rubbish
