DH really likes it, I'm not sure. We already have Frances and like Miriam, Dominic, Joseph and maybe Beatrice (expecting twins, don't know the sex).

I love it. It's a classic, pretty name, due a revival.

I also love the spelling Clare.

NadiaWadia · 09/08/2014 02:53

It's lovely. I actually prefer it to the currently fashionable 'Clara'. Although you may get people telling you it's dated and 'very 70s/80s', but don't let that bother you. You don't have to follow the herd. Having said that, apparently Claire is very popular for little girls in America right now. Maybe they didn't get such a lot of Claires in the 70s/80s as we did here.

I also like the 'Clare' spelling (slightly prefer it), but Claire is great too.

burgatroyd · 09/08/2014 06:14

I don't like it. I like dated 7Os names but I don't like the cl sound. It sounds like throat clearing.

BlueStarsAtNight · 09/08/2014 07:00

Sorry but I think it's a dull choice. I can't get past it being the name that every second person had when I was growing up. Your other choices are much nicer and go better with Frances.

Longdistance · 09/08/2014 07:15

Clara's better Grin

Monkeyandanimal · 09/08/2014 07:22

It's a beautiful classic name, which will stand out as individual and different in the current generation as today's parents remember too many 'claires' from their youth; hence none else will use it now; go for it!

thatsn0tmyname · 09/08/2014 07:28

Sorry but Clare is a but full. However, there are kits of lovely 70s names that a due a revival. Joanna, Helen/a, Lisa, Rachel

thatsn0tmyname · 09/08/2014 07:29

Dull, not full

thatsn0tmyname · 09/08/2014 07:30

Lots not kits. Bloody autocorrect

I think it's rather lovely and for the new generation will sound quite novel. Simple, elegant. What's not to like?

serendipity16 · 09/08/2014 08:46

My sister is called Claire & i love the name.
I think its a pretty name & you don't hear many little Claires anymore.
Its so much prettier than many popular names at the moment.

Sootgremlin · 09/08/2014 09:01

I said on a thread recently I thought Claire would be due a revival soon as it is classic, simple and pretty. It was a victim of its own popularity. It will be unusual and stand out if you use it now, it sounds very fresh and different for a little girl now I think. Lovely meaning too.

Wishfulmakeupping · 09/08/2014 09:02

Dull boring whereas Clara I really like

Holidayfun · 09/08/2014 09:04

I really can't stress enough my dislike for the name Claire. Don't like Clara either. It's just so dull. I love all your other names though and totally love Frances.

Spinaroo · 09/08/2014 09:07

I love it- and considered it for my own dd (14 years ago) - I think it is classic and doesn't go out of fashion.

Gumnast2014 · 09/08/2014 09:08

I'm a Clare.

It's awful, dull, I was one of 6 in my class!

There are so many other lovely names

It's soo chavvy

I have a very senior job and my name I feel doesn't go with it

Love

I hate my name

SantanaLopez · 09/08/2014 09:26

Hmmm, split opinions! I think it's growing on me, I like that it's feminine but not frilly. Thanks!

I like Claire (and spelt that way too). I think it's pretty, simple and she won't be one of loads with that name in her class.

susiedaisy · 09/08/2014 09:31

I think it's dull. Sorry

CokeFan · 09/08/2014 09:42

My DD's a Claire. She's the only one in her school.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 09/08/2014 09:57

Clare chavvy?!

NigellasDealer · 09/08/2014 10:04

er how is it 'chavvy' exactly?
when I was at uni there were six Clares doing English!! each one had an identifying prefix = I am not telling you what mine was Grin

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 09/08/2014 10:12

It's not remotely chavvy. I am a Clare and like it more the older I get.

Go on Nigella spill!

MrsBungle · 09/08/2014 10:15

Dull as dish water.
