What do you think? I am rather liking it, fits the Biblical trend but not popular yet, easy to spell, short.

Only problem is will people pronounce it Job as in 'Job interview' or how it should be said Jobe? I noticed more people spelled it Jobe recently but I hate the e, it looks wrong.

yes when he comes home crying from school because everytime the teacher has said 'i need someone to do a job for me', the other kids have laughed , you can say to him 'i knew your name was silly but i am pig headed and thought it would be better for me to indulge my whims than for you to have a name that you can actually live with. isn't that nice darling?'

sandberry · 24/07/2014 19:12

Since it isn't pronounced job highly unlikely to happen and honestly his classmates round here will have their own wide variety of names, he isn't likely to be in a classroom of Daniel's and James' if he even goes to school.

If it does, I can say "how do you want to handle this? you can go and face up to them, tell them to get over it, you can start going by Joe, you could tell the teacher, you could use your middle name"

I could tell him that I called him Job because I knew life was suffering and this was his first trial, keep the faith and live up to your name Wink

People will just have to get over it

sandberry · 24/07/2014 19:14

Isn't it Boaz who married Ruth?

OP posts:
FidelineAndBombazine · 24/07/2014 19:15

Boaz. You're right. Even better name.

sandberry · 24/07/2014 19:15

Indeed he will, just like the rest of us have to get over our names, whether they be Job or James, if we don't like it we can change it but we have to live with the reality that we can't choose our own names.

FidelineAndBombazine · 24/07/2014 19:17

just like the rest of us have to get over our names,

That's quite a tough approach.

PrimalLass · 24/07/2014 19:19

Fidelity - boab definitely has other connotations in Scotland.

scottishmummy · 24/07/2014 19:19

Anyhoo You've decided,i get the impression youd like provoking a reaction with the name
You can sternly tell people get over it.Have a big ole rational discussion and group hug

sandberry · 24/07/2014 19:20

No just reality. I can show him this thread and explain how I thought about all the cons quite carefully and the pros and I thought he would appreciate a name rich in meaning and short and not too common and if he wants to call himself something else I'll happily call him that.

OP posts:
PrimalLass · 24/07/2014 19:20

Or Sanberry, you could just call him something else that won't invite ridicule for his formative years ...

scottishmummy · 24/07/2014 19:20

boab in scotland is penis

ContentedLittleMummy · 24/07/2014 19:20

I love Job but dislike single syllable names in general. I have an Elijah and an Isaiah (Isaiah was born live on a MN thread funnily enough!). We're expecting number 3 in 6 weeks and are battling the next name out...! Best of luck. I think Job is lovely.; and he was a good man in the Biblical context. We considered Job when I suffered hyperemesis and thought the suffering would never ever end!

FidelineAndBombazine · 24/07/2014 19:21

Oops have I commited a hilarious mix up? Blush I'm scared to google it.

I'm drugged up and overheated and getting things wrong left right and centre today Confused

Maybe I should have a little lie down Grin

FidelineAndBombazine · 24/07/2014 19:22

Oh christ. Thanks for the clarification scottish Smile

sandberry · 24/07/2014 19:22

I can't imagine Job would get much of a reaction to mine or his face, most people are too polite irl. I just really like it. It reminds me of other short names I like eg Max, Leo. Job has the slight edge on them because it is meaningful and has a message.

Just read some comments back (crikey!) but we looked at Jonah and my husband automatically said "Jonah the boner". Sigh.

squoosh · 24/07/2014 19:24

I like Saul. Sauls are always quite cool.

sandberry · 24/07/2014 19:25

I could call him something else but what if when he's 10 I said "I'm sorry you don't like Leo because there is 10 in your class, I was going to call you Job which I really loved but a bunch of people on the internet said you'd have a terrible life with that name" and he says "I wish you'd called me Job" who knows how it will go.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 24/07/2014 19:27

It was you who initiated this asking bunch of strangers on internet, will job be pronounced job llike job centre

sandberry · 24/07/2014 19:32

fair enough, I've learned that yes it probably will but I've decided I actually don't care.
The poo association info was new knowledge and helpful and is interesting that I started this thread with a vague thought of Job, actually that's quite nice but now I am thinking Job is definitely the best name.

I've enjoyed all the comments positive and not so positive.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 24/07/2014 19:34

Youll now certainly be familiar with the connotations and its universal,uk wide
So fair enough
