Job

What do you think? I am rather liking it, fits the Biblical trend but not popular yet, easy to spell, short.

Only problem is will people pronounce it Job as in 'Job interview' or how it should be said Jobe? I noticed more people spelled it Jobe recently but I hate the e, it looks wrong.

No, point of Job was he doesn't lose faith, he's a good guy, he doesn't do wrong/need punished. (This was in Old Testament before Heaven used as a reward so you got your reward in big flocks of sheep/lots of children. Being well off wasn't bad till Jesus comes along). God and Devil just mess him up for no reason!

It's totally and absolutely dire. The teasing at school will be awful and the nicknames unthinkable. Who could do this to a child.

I'm affronted on your behalf jackoff.

I'd hide the thread if I were you. People on here can be so nasty.

Thanks Bowler but me and my son are made of stronger stuff! A thread like this wont put me off the name and I hope it doesn't upset Sandberry who clearly loves it too.

Yes, jackoff, it was partly to the poster above mine, but Scottishmummy has tried to put the boot in how many posts this thread sm?

For the record I only agreed with Scottish that the OP asked for an opinion and got it.

I like it and also like the Bible story.

I researched my family history and have a couple in the 1800s, I thought it was quite cool!

big jobbie, blow job, b-job, good job, , oddjob, knobjob

Even Job in the Bible was a man who was beset with horrendous disasters that take away all that he holds dear, including his offspring, his health, and his property

Why-oh-why would you wish that on any child, let alone your child?!

Report
jackoff · 24/07/2014 11:12

Because the word job and the name Job are pronounced very differently and they have 2 entirely different meanings.

Just because I have named my child that does not mean I wish a life of suffering upon him!

Also just saw you live in London so I doubt you would have any negative connotations.

In my experience having taught lots of London teenagers, people in London are very open minded about names! Wink

I came on here assuming that it was pronounced like "Job Centre" and thought it was awful.

Personally I'm not all that keen on it, I am Scottish and up here there would definitely be a "jobby" (poo) reference.

Really though, the majority of first encounters with people wont be with his name written down, so they will
get the pronounciation when you introduce him/he introduces himself. If it's someone reading it off a page for the first time it wont be hard to correct them and will
probably occur leas often than you think.

You already sound like your mind is made up anyway, I personally really don't like it, and my son has a short "J" name himself but Job(e) just does not sound like a name to me- sorry!

Haha, put boot in,so report me.like vast majority posters i associate job and poo
Op asked for and got opinion.she pretty clear yes there'll be sniggers etc but well tough
In fairness op hasnt begged, implored posters to stop.she pretty much said get over it

I was born and grew up in London and we used the word job for a poo. Still like the name though but might add an 'e'.

Sm, I wasn't referring to your huge number of negative posts to the OP, more about your rant and subsequent posts to jackoff, when you learnt she does have a little boy called Job. The repeated nastiness is uncalled for. You said it over and over yesterday anyway.

I still am surprised by the poo reference, living in the south east. I've never heard it.

So if someone said 'you've done a good job' do people automatically think 'have you had a good poo?'

I find it very peculiar.

Report
OorWullie · 24/07/2014 12:14

It's not Job, it's Jobby that has the poo reference.

I'm originally from S.Yorks and I grew up hearing Job not Jobby. Then, again, Yorkshire is known for shortening of words and missing them out Grin

Either way; some people will still connect Job with Jobby.

Even now; after I know how the name is pronounced, at a glance/top of my head my brain says job as in work. It takes awhile to remember the correction. For me anyway.

I wasn't ranting at jackoff,i was amused at her how very dare you post, remonstrating others
It was v indignant, and Imo disproportionate how dare you to name thread
name threads are predictable, inevitably someone will say thats child name

Certainly what i was unaware of is job=poo. down the road.and in london too

oh god hadn't even thought of blow, hand etc And it means poo too??

Report
DoItTooJulia · 24/07/2014 12:56

Im nit sure if some people are acting thick or if they're being deliberatly obtuse.

It's not job. It's Job, pronounced jobe. The two words are pronounced differently. Therefore, hand jobe means nothing. The same is true for poo. Job might be juvenile slang for poo, but Job sounds nothing like it.

I feel for the OP and jack off.

Report
curiousuze · 24/07/2014 12:59

But in Scotland it can be pronounced 'joaby' (jobbie) - not such a problem in London though
