Nowt wrong with out there middle names! Its a talking point. I have an extremely giggle worth surname that people would try and tease me about when I was a tot. I learnt many ways to deflect them and I would not change my surname now! Love it!
In big cities unusual names are common. True smaller villagers might be filled with children named from the top 100 where anything else might stand out but times are changing. Kids got to learn that they can't be mean about someones name.
And I fail to see how the first names inc Buster are that unusual!

Megrim · 02/05/2014 07:58

I think anyone from the Viz generation would have a giggle at Buster.

bouncingbelle · 02/05/2014 10:43

Girl - velvet

Boy - Django

flavourflave · 02/05/2014 10:52

Gonad! Brings back memories...

soontobeslendergirl · 02/05/2014 11:04

Monty, Dolly, Herbie, Buster/Boo and

Hubert/Hughey
Morrice
Halbert/Hal
Winston
Nelson

Lillias
Rita
Mimsie
Ruby Roo ( though this might be too close to Scooby Doo trying to say his own name.....)

From the suggestions already made, i like Betty, Bunty or Hetty for girls and Bertie or Ernie for a boy.

If you really want to shock everyone, I'd go for John or Jane :o

singersgirl · 02/05/2014 11:49

John Boy
Johnny Ray
Jonty Jay
Jimmy Mac
Jimmy Joe
Jimmy Jet
Jem Stone
Peggy Pie
Maggie May
Nelly Faye
Billy Bob
Sally Anne
Sally Sue
Buddy Bran

Some of these are more sensible than others.

Seatedhere · 02/05/2014 12:30

Gosh there are some childish posters on this thread. How sheltered has your life been that 'Monty' gives you an attack of the vapours?

Myrtle
Mabel
Lottie
Nessie
Cecilia
Poppy

Stanley
Louie
Art
Finlay
Reggie
Mungo
Ottis
Kes
Bertie

FragileBrittleStar · 02/05/2014 12:51

I think you are being a bit disingenious tbh - the first name (or first half of the name) is perfectly normal/trendy old person style and I've met children called each of those - and it seems like the children are only known by this - personally i'd call them the real name (Montgomery/Dorothy/herbet - i think buster is a full name anyway) and shorten it but to each his own

So on same idea:
Girls:
Gertie
Mamie
Flossie
Biddy
Bridey
Bessy
Tibby

Boys

Kester
Vester
Teddy
Sidney
Sully
Kit
Sal
Woody

jazzyjenbo · 02/05/2014 18:59

Not read all the post but first name that came to mind.

Boy
Fox maximus

Girl
Missy belle

gymboywalton · 03/05/2014 09:34

"I know a Flash Monkey - fantastic name, suits him and his wonderful, creative parents."

surely that's a joke??????????????ShockShockShock

ok- i think that if you are going to call your child a name that is 'creative' like this then you should spend a month, before the baby is born, using that name for yourself. you must introduce yourself to new people, book a restaurant with that name , spend some time in a secondary school etc etc

if at the end of the month you still feel that it is a fine name, then go for it.

CrispyFern · 03/05/2014 10:08

I see an issue with one name on your shortlist.

"Here are three of my kids - Monty, Boo and Blue."

EyeMyrrhSlapHer · 03/05/2014 10:13

Ziggy

bugoven · 03/05/2014 11:17

It's not a joke.

I work in a school and the child I've met most troubled by their name is a "Thomas" who is regularly found in tears because someone had called him Thomas the Tank Engine. Many of his class mates have some very unusual names but I have never seen them worried by comments.

Lannypanny123 · 03/05/2014 15:24

Thanks for everyone's thoughts still quite a wile to go so I have plenty of time to decide.

Buster-Boo? That is just cruel, how is he every going to get taken seriously at work? He won't be a child forever you know. Does he have a sensible middle name he can use for professional purposes?

sonlypuppyfat · 03/05/2014 16:07

Grobag exactly how will he ever be taken seriously even his parents didn't take naming him seriously.

squoosh · 03/05/2014 16:11

'Grobag exactly how will he ever be taken seriously even his parents didn't take naming him seriously.'

Bit over the top.

I never think a name is anything other than a reflection of their parents taste. I don't assume things about people upon hearing their name.

Squoosh - normally I would agree but this is an extreme example. I would expect an adult to change that name before entering the employment market! Potential employers judge and discriminate on name whether you like it or not - that's just life.

squoosh · 03/05/2014 16:41

And whether you like it or not it's a fact that in 25 year's time the job market will be saturated with young people with all sorts of weird and wonderful names. A qualified doctor is a qualified doctor whether he's called Thomas or Buster.

flavourflave · 03/05/2014 17:58

Dr Pixie Mckenna, in history there was Capability Brown and there's that famous story of brothers Winner and Loser Lane...

Also Peggy used to be very popular. What's the difference between that kinda name and Dolly?

I know a Jane who was bullied with Janus the Anus.

I do love Biba and Queenie on your list op!

soontobeslendergirl · 03/05/2014 18:01

Pixie isn't her real name though, it's Bernadette.

squoosh · 03/05/2014 18:02

And yet she seems to have ditched the sensible Bernadette in favour of Pixie. Even in her professional life.

flavourflave · 03/05/2014 18:04

Forgot to mention Oprah Winfrey whose parents spelt original name wrong on BC. She also refused to change name and hasn't done too badly with her made up name.

If the kids hate name they can always be known by a different one at school.
