pantone-i completely agree

singersgirl · 01/05/2014 13:32

Is Monty Jack named after the cheese?

You could try cheese-theming:

Dolcelatte Brie (though a bit close to Dolly)
Cheddar Chip
Parmigiano Ritz

gymboywalton · 01/05/2014 13:32

do you not remember buster bloodvessel?

Openupyoureyes · 01/05/2014 13:33

I have a fairly unusual Welsh name, although I'm English and have always lived in England. I didn't know of anyone else with the same name until I was in my 30s.

Although I love my unusual name now, when I was at school I longed to be a Julie or a Susan or a Linda. Every time I had to give my name I would have to repeat it, then spell it, then have the teachers/other adults telling me what a lovely, pretty name I had. As a fairly shy child I was mortified.

I was never bullied because of my name, but did have a bit of Mickey-taking from people who thought they were being funny.

I really wish people who give their children very unusual names would just stop for a moment and think about what they will be subjecting their children to when they reach school age. You may think it will be great to have a child with a name no one else has - your child may well think it's the worse thing you could have done for it!

Lannypanny123 · 01/05/2014 13:33

I really don't understand where everyone get they will get bullied from, other children don't bat an eyelid at my kids names they have always been them so at school it's just normal,
Monty often gets told how cool his name is from his friends older brothers and never once have they said they dislike there names, and monty isn't young

Penguin my Herbie is 3 what a great choice in names you have ??

Also if I'm calling my children theses names so 'IM Diffrent' what does that make people who have name in the top 10, plain janes? Followers of the crowd? Of course my own personality is reflected in my childrens names if it wasn't we could all just let the lollipop lady name our children as wouldn't matter if we liked it or not.

Thank you to the loverly people who have given me lots of great name choices I've got lots to add to my lists xxx

It's not so much the first names as the combination with the middle names, isn't it? Dolly is fine, if not to my taste, and Dot is fine, but Dolly Dot? It sounds like Polly Pocket or Teddy Tumbles. Buster is a rather aggressive-sounding nickname, but coupled with Boo?

Still, not my bailiwick nor my children and I am being facetious and rude with someone else's choices, so I will offer apologies and leave the thread.

squoosh · 01/05/2014 13:41

I think middle names in general are a load of old nonsense so I'm ignoring them!

Lannypanny123 · 01/05/2014 13:46

Buster-Boo is his full first name I think it has a rather nice ring to it myself but like I've says he is almost always called boo by everyone,

Dolly is the only one that uses her middle name and she does that herself she tell anyone she meets ages called Dolly Dot

OP I do admire your courage in choosing the names you have. I gave my dog one of my wackier names, to stop myself from using it on a future child! Bit daft really. I hope the posts from those who feel the need to criticise are water off a ducks back. Pantone, if you wouldn't give someone a job based on their name, or laugh at people's names behind their backs, that says more about you than that person's mother. If you can't say anything nice, and all that.

This is quite a fun opportunity for those of us giving suggestions - I'd love to know which ones you like though OP!

Here's mine...

Girls:
Lilabeth Pixie
Serendipity Jayne
Sunshine Rose-Marie
Jaime Summer Rae
Eirene Briar-Blossom
Mackenzie Rayne
Sophya Tansy Rainbow
Bluebell Lavender-Jae
Skylark Gypsy

Another thing I don't understand on MN is why the hate for NN as you call them names? Why use Montgomery on the birth certificate if its never going to get used again? It's always puzzled me

Tulip
Juniper
Bracken

Dalziel

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 01/05/2014 15:50

Longer names give the child a choice when they're older?

My name has several short versions, I like most of them but there's one I can't stand because it feels too twee and cutesy. I've used a few of the others, and now mainly use the whole thing, and I'm grateful to my parents for giving me the choice.

NellieSocks · 01/05/2014 15:53

Can i add Bertie, Jerry, Nellie, Trudie or Frankie to your lists?

sonlypuppyfat · 01/05/2014 16:12

It's just that I can't imagine a big hunky lad of 19 chatting up a girl in a club and saying hi I'm Buster Boo!

Megrim · 01/05/2014 16:24

Dolly and Dot are both diminutives of Dorothy Hmm

I can see why you didn't use the full version on the birth certificate as "Dorothy Dorothy Lannypanny123" would look a bit odd.

funnyoldonion · 01/05/2014 16:49

Primrose
Sailor
Poesy

Sorry but why would you just name your child Harry purely to make they're lives easier? Bizarre, no offence to any little Harry's just the reasoning behind it! I have much more respect for the OP! X

funnyoldonion · 01/05/2014 16:50
