Persephone

One of the names me and my husband love for our baby if it is a girl is Persephone. However we are struggling with the middle names.

We need two or three middle names. These can be English names or Classical Greek.

I am open to suggestions.

Many Thanks

It's an ok name in itself. But along side two middle names and a double barrelled surname it won't fit on forms, she will be 8 before she can pronounce it all and will forever sound like she's choking on a thesaurus.

Please re consider two middle names. What's wrong with something simple and pretty.

Ploppy16 · 17/04/2014 12:54

How about Aine? Celtic goddess of herbs and healing, short and very pretty. We almost called DD2 this but the DC's vetoed it..

drinkingtea · 17/04/2014 13:17

This thread is hilarious. I thought it was a wind up half the time, I am still not sure, but as the OP has lots of other name threads going I guess not...

drinkingtea · 17/04/2014 13:20

For some reason it has also given me an ear worm

She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College, that's where I caught her eye.
She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said in that case I'll have a rum and coke-cola.
She said fine and in thirty seconds time she said, I want to live like common people
I want to do whatever common people do...

:o

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/04/2014 13:22

:o
Love it

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/04/2014 13:23

Are you sure it's not

"She lives in a house, a very big house in the country"

drinkingtea · 17/04/2014 13:28

Ah maybe Giles... but the OP is terribly busy, she says, so surely not... :o I'm not sure if Kensington came from the OP or was just idle thread gossip?

spatchcock · 17/04/2014 13:29

I like Persephone but agree with those who say that you need a simple middle name.

I have a very 'easy' first and last name but it's constantly mispronounced so I don't think worrying about future correspondence is a good reason to choose a simpler name.

And sorry OP, but the Persephone I know is also known as Penny. Maybe it's the same person angel knows!

I have a friend called Penny and I've just asked her what her name was short for as I had never actually asked and this thread made me intrigued.....

Can you guess what it's short for?? Grin

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/04/2014 14:13

:o

But only uneducated people would do that

Ploppy16 · 17/04/2014 14:22

Wondering what the OP's car or previous posts has to do with the name of her child?
didn't realise Baby Names got so bitchy

spatchcock · 17/04/2014 14:22

Goodness, just caught up with the rest of the thread. I think the OP MUST be a fictional character. Right?

I mean ...

"What is your budget? I drive a Rolls Royce which I adore but I also have a Range Rover and Mercedes G Wagon for casual days. Range Rovers seem to be very popular with mums as they are spacious."

Shock

Is the OP a Mitford sister?

MrsBungle · 17/04/2014 14:36

I've got two degrees and a post grad and didn't know how to pronounce Persephone until mumsnet Personally, I am from a wc background but I went to uni with many uc people and I used to work for a duke and I managed never to meet a Persephone. Lots of Isabella's though.

My opinion is that it needs shorter middle names. I do like Marina Helen.

MummytoMog · 17/04/2014 14:37

I like Persephone, but it does feel a bit pretentious to me. You have to have the right attitude/surname for it. I love Hero for example, but doesn't work at all with our stupid double barrelled surname (all OH's fault, my original surname is lovely and goes with anything). I have some sort of friends who have three children with greek names, and they're quite insouciant about it, which works for me. Hector seems to be super popular at the moment too. Sometimes with double barrelled names, an extra middle name balances things out. I pushed for another one for both our two, but OH was very unkeen, so I dropped it.

Was going to post this ^^, but having read the last few posts, I may slink away. You know, being a pushy middle class type.

Do you think the OP meant 'utmost' in the post above?

Onyabike · 17/04/2014 14:41

Grin Yes, maybe she is squoosh!
How about Persephone Jessica Nancy Diana Unity Pamela?

MrsTaraPlumbing · 17/04/2014 14:51

Can't believe all the negative words written on this thread!

Back to names.
With the Greek theme have you considered Hera?

Hero (as in Much ado about Nothing) sounds strange as a girl's name today.

I also wondered about all the comments about shortening names. In my family we use the full name almost all of the time. My daughter has a 4 syllable name and we manage to say the whole word without too much trouble!

If you name her Persephone that is what I expect to call her, if you wanted her to be called Penny or Percy than you would give her that name?

Beeyump · 17/04/2014 14:54

You forgot Debo Angry

Onyabike · 17/04/2014 14:58

Oh my, how uneducated am I to forget The Duchess!

MissUumellmahaye · 17/04/2014 14:59

I'm loving this thread! Grin

I'm not a Persephone fan, but I LOVE Marina and Xanthe, so my suggestion would be:

Persephone Xanthe Marina Double-Barrell

And learn to write small. Smile

Viviennemary · 17/04/2014 15:02

She could always use a thumbprint until she learns to write the whole thing.

squoosh · 17/04/2014 15:02

Oh Onyabike you ignorant pleb!

Beeyump · 17/04/2014 15:03

So uneducated it's KILLING me! I hope you're ashamed Grin
