Baby names

Persephone

Puddles1234 · 13/04/2014 21:29

One of the names me and my husband love for our baby if it is a girl is Persephone. However we are struggling with the middle names.

We need two or three middle names. These can be English names or Classical Greek.

I am open to suggestions.

Many Thanks

I'm going to advocate that Persephone knew exactly what she was doing when she ate those 'pomegranate' seeds...

Persephone is a great name and yes it's still used in Greece. I'm not sure about the combination with Marina...another beautiful name, but I'm not sure if I'd use them together. Other names you might consider:

Daphne
Calliope
Iris
Thetis
Hestia
Leto
Leda
Charis
Eleni
Ioanna
Ismini
Katerina
Konstantina
Eirini
Sophia
Chrysophenia
Evantheia
Andriana
Melissa

Oh sorry, I missed the bit about your mummy...just ignore me...

Spaghettinetti are you insinuating that Persephone ate the pomegranate seeds because she needed 6 months a year away from her Mummy? :o

Persephone, Marina and Greek influences - goodness me OP, your mother isn't that Marina is she?

Feeling uneducated, and wondering what Marina Nearthe windmill was refering to, I googled Persephone Marina and discovered that Persephonella Marina is a water-borne bacteria, and that there is a tug boat called Persephone, currently in a marina in Trinidad... Fortunately OP is not bothered about meaning - I can't imagine children in years to come will be less prone to googling their own and each others names though... :o

I shall now step away from the internet :o

Persephone Three Middle Names Double-Barrel surname!

This sounds like a name that will make its debut in the Telegraph announcements.

angeltulips What a very odd post. Are you stark raving mad? Or Paula Yates? What a pompous, embarrasingly noov combination I am clearly not Paula Yates darling she is dead.

Persephone will become penny which i hate, and am also not keen on a name that has such a negative meaning but if you want to live Penny? I have absolutely no idea where you have garnered Penny from. The nicknames most commonly used for Persephone is Sephy or Percy.

Sunnydaysablazeinhope Thank you for your post however I like the idea of complete strangers giving an opinion on names. The problem is whoever I ask in RL regardless if they are friends or family they keep giving us suggestions that we have either vetoed previously or are trying to steer us to a completely different name. if we used family names with 'meaning' it would be Persephone Marina Elizabeth Frances which we are not completely sold on.

There has to be two or three middle names, that is just how it is. Its what is expected of us.

Spaghettinetti Love Chrysophenia, Konstantina and Eleni however I don't think they go with Persephone and Marina.

I love Persephone and know 2, both called Sephy for short (all the Pennys I know are Penelope's, can't see that at all)

I do think of you use a slightly more unusual name you should probably keep the middle names short/simple though

Artandco · 16/04/2014 15:15

Can you shorten Elizabeth to Eliza?

Persephone Marina Eliza Rose/ Frances would be slightly shorter

Iv no idea what a Kensington thing is and we live there also.

Nicknames most commonly used for Persephone is Perse or Sephy - I think you meant are.

Also there has to be two or three middle names - it shoud be have.

It was expected that the 4th in line would have two or three names but they made do with the relatively down to earth George Alexander Louis.

Is the poor grammar a Kensington thing?

NearTheWindymill My apologies I am extremely busy and currently typing off an iPhone so grammar is the last thing I am checking.

Where I live is not important.

where does the Alexandrina come from?

I think that is a bit awkward and will constantly be read as Alexandra.

still love Persephone though. I think I would go with Persephone Marina double-barelled surname. That's quite a lot of syllables already.

Good grief. What is it with some folk? There are more chips on this thread than in Harry Ramsden's

Alexandrina was Queen Victoria's first given name.

ExitPursuedByABear I have no idea how I am being a 'arse'

I want peoples honest opinions and suggestions on middle names that compliment Persephone, I do not want to make this thread about where one resides etc.

knickernicker I am not Alex Polizzi.

Marina is a definite middle name. We need one or two more.

Front runners are,

Iris
Elizabeth
Helena
Artemis
Alexandrina

Any more suggestions would be most appreciated.

We are trying to avoid using 'family' names as once you use one name then others become insistent that their name is included.

Family's names we would consider alongside Marina are,

Frances
Beatrice

Thank you in advance.

I don't think exit meant you, OP.

Ignore the grumpies. Persephone is a dream of a name. The middle name doesn't matter much so choose whatever feels right to you and DP Smile.
