Baby names

Persephone

Puddles1234 · 13/04/2014 21:29

One of the names me and my husband love for our baby if it is a girl is Persephone. However we are struggling with the middle names.

We need two or three middle names. These can be English names or Classical Greek.

I am open to suggestions.

Many Thanks

All of our families have a least two middle names.

Marina has to be included as my mummy will not speak to me again. Hmm

I like the combination of the Greek with the English names.

What would you suggest then including Persephone and Marina together?

Gertie your Granny has a fabulous name.

I like
Persephone Marina Helena Rose
Persephone Iris Marina Rose

I don't think I would have multiple greek names if not greek. We are English/ greek and our boys have English first name, greek middle, English middle, greek surname

Oh and the greek girls names we had on list were Theodora, Thalia, Penelope, Nyla

Persephone is beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous name. And I LOVE Percy as a nickname.

Persephone - lovely name.
I like Athena but obviously it does not go with it.
Jayne is nice - my daughter's middle name too.
Some of the other suggestions already provided were excellent IMHO.

Filling in forms will be a nightmare with all those long names - and with a double-barrelled surname too Confused

Why so many names? Why so complicated? Are you minor royalty?

Your poor DD will struggle to learn to spell all that, and will spend her life receiving mis-spelled correspondence.

Jane is only ok without a 'y' in the middle.

Persephone is gorgeous, but I do think that you're overloading the child with names considering you're doubled barrelled as well. Fair enough if the names mean something to you, but giving a child five for the sake of it seems a bit pointless. I doubt your DD would feel shortchanged if you just stuck to Persephone Marina, which is lovely.

DP has a long double barrelled second name (and we both love Persephone) but we're both wary about going OTT with middle names.

greek names like this aren't fashionable here but it wouldn't stop me from using one. Popular girls names here are the more common ones and they tend to be more biblical than mythological so Marina, Christina and Sophia and the like. I think Persephone Marina is lovely.

Persephone Aoide Aphrodite Gaia

Are you stark raving mad? Or Paula Yates? What a pompous, embarrasingly noov combination

Persephone will become penny which i hate, and am also not keen on a name that has such a negative meaning but if you want to live in ignorant bliss that's your lookout

Persephone is beautiful! Pretty, classic and not overused.

Middle names are rarely used so choose whatever you like, but bear in mind the overall length so filling out forms doesn't take too long (although I'm not eve sure the ask for all names that often?)

Wow such negativity towards a lovely name from people who don't sound like they know the story that well. Persephone will get shortened to Percy which is a great nn. She is the bringer of spring and new growth.

Report
Artandco · 16/04/2014 07:12

Sephie is the nn most use also

I agree, if you have a double surname just use one middle name as she will already have 4 fairly long to write

It's going to be the most enormous mouthful of a name to have persephone then three middle names then a double barrelled surname!! It will never fit on forms!!
I have to say I think Persephone is terrible as well sorry

Angel

How are you getting Penny from Persephone?

Report
angeltulips · 16/04/2014 07:32

No idea - but I know 2 & they're both penny (pennies?) - maybe it's the nearest "regular" shortening (Percy is a boys name so no idea why you'd call a daughter that)

Not sure why/when it started - I shall ask them!

(Btw both of them hate the name - one has 2 dds and has called them Jane and kate as a reaction!)

I'm sorry but I don't like it, it sounds horribly pompous especially with all those middle names and a double barrelled surname!

I agree with a pp, kids can be terribly cruel and Persephone seems a easy target name to pick on.

Love some of your middle name ideas though! Smile

Persephone is lovely.

I have no idea why you need a middle name after it. Particularly one chosen by strangers? With no family history or love?

I'm actually pro middle names but why lump random pics from a dictionary onto your child? Look at your history ffs. Or leave it. For if you say it like mini the middle name is fone...

^ agree
Why bother having amiddle name if it has no meaning
A strong first name and surname is good

Persephone with a simpler middle name. I don't see the need for two complicated middle names after something long and classical to be honest. We kept our dd's first name short, simple and classical and gave her a longer and more unusual middle name. We were mindful of the fact that we have a very long surname with a counterintuitive pronounciation and wanted to ensure the children were given manageable names in keeping with their peers.

I have a name which is very unusual and of a similar genre to some of the OP's options and whilst I don't mind it now, I absolutely hated it as a child and the comments it generated and my circles were fairly landed.

Having said that I quite like Xanthe.

A double barreled surname and a Kensington address explains a lot.

Report
NearTheWindymill · 16/04/2014 08:40

I know a lot of people with Kensington addresses and double barrelled surnames who don't call their children Greek names to be honest. Very nice they are too, stinking rich perhaps but refeshingly down to earth.

Persephone Marina would be fine if your mother won't speak to you again if it is not included Confused.

Having multiple other names detracts and makes form filling difficult, particularly with a v long surname.
My siblings and I have two mn but it was in order to include multicultural family names. If you don't have any Greek connection at all, it seems a little strange to use a string of Greek names. Pick a name which you both like or one with a family connection.

drinkingtea · 16/04/2014 09:45

Persephone Marina is as far as you can go with a double barrel surname on top, if you want her to remain on speaking terms with you after the age of 10... Be prepared for her to insist onbeing called a much simpler nickname from about age 7 or 8 too...
