I have suddenly decided that I love this name above all others and frankly don't care what DP thinks on the matter.

The only weensy hitch is I'm not sure about the assonance that exists when it's used with my surname: Enid Stephens.

Thoughts?

You can tell me your thoughts on Enid too, if you like. Though I shan't listen to you unless you are wholly positive about it, obviously. Wink

I like Enid. Not sure it flows that well with your surname, but its not dreadful. A middle name would help.

whereisthewitch · 18/03/2014 20:22

Reminds me of sweet valley high!

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:22

I love the Mumsnettiness of "it's not dreadful". Grin

Full name will be Enid Marian Stephens. But folk don't often use their full name like that, do they?

Oh yes...vaguely recalling. Was she the terribly one in SVH?

MuffTheMagicDragonButter · 18/03/2014 20:23

Not for me I'm afraid, sounds very snipey and harsh, but then I hate Agatha for the same reason.

Perhaps you could put a ´ on it and pronounce it Aynid. Grin

invicta · 18/03/2014 20:24

Lovely! Everyone knows it because of Enid Blyton, but it's also unusual. Good choice.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:25

terribly mean one in SWH?

HaymitchAbarnathy · 18/03/2014 20:25

Love Enid. It's my name of choice if I ever had a dd although my dh has pre-vetoed it unfortunately.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:26

I'm quite snipey and harsh, so perhaps the genes dictate, Muff.

Aynid. NO. Grin

Love it. I think of Enid Coleslaw before blyton.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:30

Well we're all agreed that Enid is quite the coolest name ever .

But what about the surname assonance issue?

OP posts:
Pinter · 18/03/2014 20:31

Edith?

BabyMummy29 · 18/03/2014 20:31

Oh no - Enid is just too old-fashioned

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:32

I have just texted my friend and she says no on the grounds that it it "goes horribly with" my daughter's name.

This is not a valid reason is it? Is it?

DD's name is Agnes.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:33

Not Edith. Too simpering.

OP posts:
Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:33

Old fashioned be blowed!

wizzler · 18/03/2014 20:33

I like it...

melonribena · 18/03/2014 20:35

Enid Rollins was originally a nice girl who was friends with Elizabeth and then went funny when they went to uni!

Cuxibamba · 18/03/2014 20:36

Not for me at all, sounds very dated to my ears. And Enid Stephens doesn't really flow imo. However, my own personal name taste isn't actually good so listening to me is probably a bad idea. Blush

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 18/03/2014 20:37

edith is much nicer plus edie is a sweet nn

MuffTheMagicDragonButter · 18/03/2014 20:38

I offered you a solution to the assonance issue!

Or you could marry someone else.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:39

Definitely know to Edith. And DEFINITELY no to Edie. I don't like sweet names.

MuffTheMagicDragonButter · 18/03/2014 20:40

What about Ena? Similar idea but somehow works better with the surname, even though it's 'ee' again.

MuffTheMagicDragonButter · 18/03/2014 20:42

Evadne?

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:42

It was the worst solution ever, Muff.

I often do think about marrying someone else. Someone artistic maybe, with red hair and stubble who knows a lot about wine and reads T S Eliot.... However, the Stephens is my name so I'll keep it even if I ditch DP for my red fox.
