Olive

I'm really starting to warm to the name Olive, I think it has a fresh quirky feel to it, with a vintage edge at the same time iykwim

I think it may be a marmite name....which is fine as I want something unusual!

I'm not keen on Olivia as it is overdone IMO.

So what do you think? Do you know any? Is it getting popular? What kind of vibe do you think it has?

I like the sound of it. But I would worry that my child would get teased at school, and hence would avoid it for that reason.

ginger in what way would you think a child would be bullied for the name, just wondering am I missing something?

I know two - one in her seventies and one who is nearly 2. The small one gets called Livvy a lot which I think is very sweet.

Its this bumps name if it turns out to be a girl.

It's a bit On The Buses isn't it.

There's a 6 year old Olive in ds2's class. I think it's a lovely name.

Ok, I looked up the stats and it was ranked 260 th in 2012 so hardly overused or top 20 boring, which is good

This would be DC3's name but looks like it's a boy. It was almost DD's name but she didn't look like an Olive when she was born. Now she's 3 she totally could be an Olive so I really regret not using it even though I love the name we gave her. I'll never have an Olive as I'm done after this one - it will be my one regret about my children! It's such a fab name :)

It's ugly. A harsh sounding name IMHO.

Though not generally one for top 10 names, Olivia is so much more attractive than Olive I find it hard to imagine why one would choose the latter over the former.

I'm old enough to associate it with 'On the Buses' and Popeye, so could never use it. Olivia sounds so much softer, prettier and more classic to me.

I am 40 this year and have never seen an episode of On the Buses. I am aware there was a character on it who wore glasses called Olive.
But I think it is surely now time to let that Olive rest. It was a LONG time ago.
Olive is a lovely name. A snappier version of Olivia.

I love it but DH's last name is a colour, that really doesn't go with Olive sadly.

I like it. Only know 2. Olives are delicious.

Bouquet the problem with associations and connotations is that you can't adjudicate them out of existence.

Don't like it. Definitely with Edna, Bertha, Maud, Gertrude in my mind.

My sons teacher is Olive (they use first names here) she's late twenties and quite quirky.
I have warmed to it, although I wouldn't say it's a "pretty" name.
Still, I quite like it!
