Joanne what do you think?

I'm having a dd so need a strong but pretty name to go with Alexander. I've fallen in love with the name Joanne. What do you all think?

Lovely. Very pretty and I love dull if that is what people call classic. I prefer Joanna. Also unusual at the moment.

It depends of the baby will be born in 1974 or 2014...

I like it. Prefer Joanna though.

It was popular in 1970s but it is not confined to then- it is like Louise and Sarah- timeless.

It's a bit 80s, I think, sorry, and doesn't really go with Alexander. Is it the Jo bit you like, or the -anne ending? I teach a Chloeanne, which I think is quite pretty, or you could go for Julianne? Or how about Josephine NN Josie?

I find it very dated and not in a due for a revival way. Joanna is marginally better.

Agree with the above comments. I've several friends in their 30s with that name. They don't love it. There is nothing particularly wrong with it though.

Chloeanne and Julianne are dreadful! Josephine will probably get called Jo anyway as it is much nicer than Josie.
It goes well with Alexander because Jo and Alex are both names that could be boys or girls.
( still shuddering over Chloeanne!)

It's Ok as a middle name but can't Imagine a baby called it, sorry! Trying to think of similar alternatives... Jona? Joanna? Josy?

I really like it! She'd be a bit like a twenty year old Grace now though I guess, as I imagine Joanne will come back into fashion properly a bit later!

It was a very popular name when I was growing up in the 70's but ifvyou like it go for it.
I don't love it but its totally inoffensive and not pretentious like so many names.

I think it would actually be quite nice because there probably won't be lots of others of the same age and not because there is anything wrong with it but because its too early for its revival. I suspect a lot of Joannes are mums themselves.

Joanne just sounds a bit dull, whereas the -a ending lifts it IMO.

I think Joanne is dated (fine for an adult now but not a baby). Joanna though is pretty timeless and much prettier.

Chloeanne unspeakably awful.

It's v dated but not in a cool and retro way - I'm sure it'll be back at some point, just not for quite a few decades. Marianne? Roxanne/Roxanna? Arianne? Josephine if you want "Jo"?

And yes, Joanna very definitely "better" than Joanne, although neither float my boat!

Juliet is also fabulous with Alexander I think.

Helen also very classic and beautiful.

I know siblings Alexander and Johanna, I think they are lovely names.

Joanne is a bit dated and dull IMO, I prefer Joanna, Jeanne or even Joan - Joanie is v cute nickname for a little baby or toddler
