Does this work?? Also is it bad that my mother Inlaw is called Joanne and her cat is called Millie. I can see past it as I love the name but not sure the family will xx

Sorry but I personally hate those hyphenated made up Walton style names. Millie I love. But not hyphenated like that.

Sorry Blush

Orangeisthenewbanana · 21/02/2014 23:51

Sorry but really don't like it, even without the MIL and cat complications.

What about Amelia nn Millie with Joanna as the middle name?

MrsCobbit · 21/02/2014 23:54

Awful - sorry

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 21/02/2014 23:54

Is the Jo part in recognition of your MIL? If so, giving her cat's name precedence may be a little - erm - off!

RonaldMcDonald · 21/02/2014 23:55

Dearest, it's dreadful

NannyGR · 21/02/2014 23:56

I've always loved Millie even before i knew about the cat! I just thought Millie-Jo went better than Millie Joanne, maybe I shall have to rethink!!!

HyvaPaiva · 21/02/2014 23:56

I find it awful, sorry OP.

squoosh · 21/02/2014 23:57

Reminds me of Billie-Jo Jenkins, the young girl who was murdered in her foster parents home. But it may only be me that makes that link.

Millie by itself is fine, but I really don't like hyphens.

QueenQueenie · 21/02/2014 23:58

Bleurgh.
You can do better!

squoosh · 21/02/2014 23:58

Ha! Just noticed it goes Cat name-MIL name, do you think MIL would be miffed at that? Smile

WaxingGibbon · 22/02/2014 00:01

I'm sorry but it's dreadful

And it reminded me of that poor murdered girl too

Hippymama · 22/02/2014 00:05

Not a fan either (and sorry, it also reminded me of that poor girl who was murdered)

BackforGood · 22/02/2014 00:15

Well, if you called her Millie (or Amelia / Millicent for 'long'), and give her Joanne / Joanna as a middle name, you can still use the nick name Millie-Jo within your home, but she's not got to use her middle name as she grows up if she doesn't want to. I'm no fan of hyphenated names, but that isn't as bad as many I come across.

WaxingGibbon · 22/02/2014 00:18

Actually Backforgood's made me think - I think Millie on its own is ok

mumbaisapphirebluespruce · 22/02/2014 00:29

Hmm, it does seem like an homage to the MIL, which only you can decide if that is a good thing or not. I'm not a fan of Millie, far too twee for me. Joanne is also my middle name which I find dull as dishwater. Joanna is better.

Any of the following combos grab you?
Amelia Joanne
Emily Joanna

Anjou · 22/02/2014 06:24

I'm generally not a fan of hyphenated names either and, like Squoosh & the others, this reminds me of poor Billy-Jo. Amelia with Joanne or similar as mn is the way to go.

If Joanne isn't after MIL but you like the Jo part, how about ...

Josephine
Josie
Josette
Joy/Joi

Chottie · 22/02/2014 06:27

Please no - it reminds me of the name of a rag doll - sorry :)

Onesleeptillwembley · 22/02/2014 07:24

Even without the cat name it's awful.

Only1scoop · 22/02/2014 07:27

I hate hyphenated names.
Awful
Mille on its own is nice thoughSmile

Only1scoop · 22/02/2014 07:28

'Millie'

TamerB · 22/02/2014 07:31

I hate hyphenated names!
Call her Amelia Joanne with Millie for short.

TamerB · 22/02/2014 07:32

You could then just call her Millie-Jo in private before she is 5 yrs, but not enough to make it stick.

EirikurNoromaour · 22/02/2014 07:34

The hyphen is shit. Millie is ok, but it don't like it as a stand alone name. Amelia NN Millie is nice. Mille-Jo is just awful.

procrastinatingagain · 22/02/2014 07:39

I'd feel a bit daft as an adult having to tell people I was called Millie-Jo. It's not very dignified, is it? Amelia Joanna would be nice though, but not hyphenated.

TheBookofRuth · 22/02/2014 07:46

It's fine if you plan on raising her in the backwoods of Alabama and marrying her to her cousin, otherwise, no.
