Does this work?? Also is it bad that my mother Inlaw is called Joanne and her cat is called Millie. I can see past it as I love the name but not sure the family will xx

She is bound to drop the Jo part by 8 yrs - so why give it in the first place?

sonlypuppyfat · 22/02/2014 07:49

We call front bottoms Millys in this house so no.

thegreatgatsby101 · 22/02/2014 08:50

I would go with the Amelia Joanne suggestion (first and middle name) and if use the hyphenated thing at home if you really want to.

Millie isn't very grown up for a 35 year old.

MomentForLife · 22/02/2014 08:55

I think there's been some good suggestions, Millie-Jo sounds like an American Morman to me ( no offence Mormans)

Quejica · 22/02/2014 09:05

How about Millenna Josephine?

hootloop · 22/02/2014 09:14

I think it is quite nice. DS goes to school with a Lily-jo it suits her they are 7 and 8 and she is never just Lily.

Oriunda · 22/02/2014 09:28

Awful, sorry!

Amelia is a bit common at the moment.

I know a lovely little Camilla, NN Milly.

Camilla Joanne?

MamaPingu · 22/02/2014 10:04

Sorry OP but Millie-Jo is awful.
Could you not just stick with Millie? Or Amelia so she has a lovely adult name if she wants to be called that when older.
Millie seems like a name for a child as lovely as it is, I can't imagine a 40 year old Millie.
So I'd go with Amelia personally Smile
Then call her Millie Smile

curiousgeorgie · 22/02/2014 10:07

Really really bad...

Hyphenated names are the worst.

Sorry Blush

Frikadellen · 22/02/2014 11:24

If you like it go for it. "I" wouldn't use it and would prefer Millicent Joanna. (for me Amelia is just to popular)

But there is nothing wrong with it apart from some people not liking a - in names. Thats their taste clearly not yours so if you like Millie-Jo go for it imo.

SilkStalkings · 22/02/2014 11:34

Giver her a grown up option to hide behind if she wants one day.
And Josephine is so much more interesting than Joanne.
How about Mireille Josephine with Millie Jo for short?

MolotovCocktail · 22/02/2014 19:43

Everyone hates hyphenated names on the Baby Names board, OP. However, you mostly find name-geeka on here; the opinions expressed are generally not representative of most you'll meet IRL.

Or, the opinions expressed are those that should firmly stay in people's heads (I know, if the OP didn't want your opinion, she shouldn't have asked, but do you really have to be so rude?)

Now, my opinion is that Millie-Jo isn't bad. Isn't great, but isn't bad. It has nothing to do with the hyphen, more the combination of Millie with Jo. To be quite honest, it's the Jo bit that I'm not too keen on. Millie is nice, sweet, would serve her well.

But regardless, this is your baby. You won't please everyone, so name your child a name that pleases you Smile

MolotovCocktail · 22/02/2014 19:44

*geeks

Anjou · 22/02/2014 20:04

Well said, Molotov. And I think I might actually like to be a geeka! Smile

canyourearme · 22/02/2014 20:04

Prefer millie on its own. If you live it use it

ClearlyMoo · 22/02/2014 20:05

I LOVE IT!

Greythorne · 22/02/2014 20:07

I am not keen but it is not my baby or my choice.

Choose a name you love.

I know several Lily-Maes, Lili-Sues and other hyphenated names and I am not keen on any of them.

Fishandjam · 22/02/2014 20:08

Well, given the OP has asked for opinions - to me, it utterly fails the FTSE100 CEO/High Court Judge test.

But yes, if the OP likes it, she doesn't have to listen to anyone else.

loveroflife · 22/02/2014 20:11

very, very chavvy

usualsuspect33 · 22/02/2014 20:11

It's nice.

Don't be put off by the name snobs on MN.

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2014 20:23

Love Millie , love Jo.

Hate Millie - Jo .

Doesn't pass the high four judge test. But it's your baby, your choice.

Dd goes to school with a girl who has a lovely name, with -Jo on the end. I wouldn't. Just like I would go for Millie - Mae

MrsBungle · 22/02/2014 20:51

I'm not a fan of hyphenated names personally. The kids I know with such names, though, haven't dropped the second part. I know a Sarah-Mae, a lily-grace and a lily-bea which for ages I though was lily b as in the first letter of her surname

thegreylady · 22/02/2014 21:21

Joanna is much nicer than Joanne :)
