I've posted before about girls names to go with our unhelpful surname Aldock (see -
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/a1912210-Unhelpful-surname-Chloe-or-Freya-or)
but now I need boys name suggestions please!

Again, we've had to rule quite a few we like out, eg. Jacob (Jaco Baldcock) and Aidan (which I just think doesn't sound right - and as I've said in my previous thread, I don't really like alliteration).

We like Isaac but it just wouldn't work - I's a coldcock or I suck old cock??????!!!

Though we think Zac is a possiblility - Does Zac Aldcock sound ok?

Please can you give us some suggestions (boys or girls) - it's driving me a little crazy!!!!! Thank you!

I'll say it again...

M. Aldcock = Mauled Cock

Marcus, whilst a great name, just can't be reasonable. Can it?

Wait till he's between 10 and 13 and listen for the sniggers from class mates.

ToffeeJungle · 31/01/2014 12:32

Thanks for your comments and your sympathies!!!

toasted I hear what you're saying though do you have any other suggestions?
There are not many letters which wouldn't make a comedy word / phrase - some are more obvious than others though (we wouldn't use a names beginning with B) , is an 'M' name that bad???

My understanding is the surname is Aldock not Aldcock? Or am I wrong?

ChilliQueen · 31/01/2014 14:11

Toby Aldcock
Oliver Aldcock
Jasper Aldcock
Tom Aldcock
Thomas Aldcock
George Aldcock

Apologies if these already been mentioned. And thank you for making me laugh... tears streaming down face reading all of this!

ToffeeJungle · 31/01/2014 16:38

It's Aldcock - sorry there was a typo in the OP.

And yes Im laughing at a lot of these posts too - it's either that or cry!!!! Wink

Ok Toffeejungle, I accept your challenge Smile.

Do any of these suit?

Jonah
John
Jeremy
Jerome
Nathan/ Nathaniel
Edward
Edwin
Robert
Ruben
Daniel
Theo/ Theodore
Alexander
Gregory/ Greg
Aaron

On another note...
In an open plan office I worked in many moons ago the were two men who sat opposite each other. One called Andy and the other called Adam. The name plates on their desks read A. Pratt, and A. Pratty. What kind of parent does that to their own flesh and blood?

P.S. I had a maiden name that I was glad to be rid of.

Rhuba · 31/01/2014 22:32

Alexander - when shortened to Alex may sound like "I likes Old cock"

Ruben " rubbing old cock"

I'm pleased Shawn has already been ruled out. My mum has a colleague called Shawn Balls, everyone sniggers when putting phone calls through to him.

ToffeeJungle · 01/02/2014 16:47

Thanks toasted - I adore Nathan but it's already in the very close family. Daniel is lovely too but again already in use. Not keen on the others and agree with Rhuba that Alex and Reuben are no good.
It really is harder than you think!!!

I think realistically our shortlist is:
Joseph
Jared

And that's it!!!

I'm slightly uneasy about Ja (Red Old Cock).

But Joseph sounds fab! As do the nicknames Joe or Joey.

toastedteacake · 01/02/2014 21:06

I really like Joseph. Fab name. Smile

Joseph is a cute baby name and grows with them.

mammabear4 · 01/02/2014 23:27

Just read through this post and I have to say don't discount James!! I think it flows better as a one syllable name with your last name, and I know a few Jameses and only one is Jim, none are Jamie! My brother is James and was called Jamesy as a baby and my mum/dad always hated Jim and even more disliked Jamie, so he was always always called James and he's never been called anything else, not by friends as a nickname or anything, I think it got to the point that cos my parents hated Jim/Jamie so much he hated them too!
It really is a classic name so don't discount it due to possible nicknames... If you just aren't as keen though then I would go for Joseph over Jared, Jared reminds me of something that's jarring (like not a pleasant thing) but that's maybe me just being weird!

mammabear4 · 01/02/2014 23:31

Oh I was also going to say I think people just become their names... My brother James could never be anything but James... He just isn't a Jamie or a Jim at all. Same with if you went with Joseph and didn't like Joe, he would be called Joseph and he would just become a Joseph! If this makes sense!
Another "J" name... Have you considered Joshua/Josh? Works well with your surname as the long and nn version I think!!

Britishseamonkey · 02/02/2014 23:29

What about Zachary? Nn Zac ? Best of both worlds

newyearhere · 03/02/2014 10:33

Yes James is a good one!

ToffeeJungle · 04/02/2014 11:43

I do like James but not enough for a first name (great middle name though).
Not keen on Joshua, though thanks for the suggestion.
I see we might have to rule Jared out, didn't see the Ja Red Aldcock!!!
And Zac was a favourite until someone said it could sound like suck - suck Aldcock not good!!
So we're left with Joseph BUT DH still is unsure as thinks it will inevitably get shortened to Joe which he thinks could seem a bit feminine?! (think it's because he works with a couple of Jo's who are female).
He likes Marcus and so do I but someone said M Aldcock sounds like mauled cock???!!!

This is driving me crazy!!!
