Help with name to go with 'unusual' (comedy) surname please!

I've posted before about girls names to go with our unhelpful surname Aldock (see -
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/a1912210-Unhelpful-surname-Chloe-or-Freya-or)
but now I need boys name suggestions please!

Again, we've had to rule quite a few we like out, eg. Jacob (Jaco Baldcock) and Aidan (which I just think doesn't sound right - and as I've said in my previous thread, I don't really like alliteration).

We like Isaac but it just wouldn't work - I's a coldcock or I suck old cock??????!!!

Though we think Zac is a possiblility - Does Zac Aldcock sound ok?

Please can you give us some suggestions (boys or girls) - it's driving me a little crazy!!!!! Thank you!

Jared goes very well.

Rooners · 22/01/2014 13:13

Oh and Joseph is great

Frontdoorstep · 22/01/2014 18:10

Not read the whole thread but Aldcock isn't that bad, I think you just choose a name you like, if someone wants to bully or tease they will do that whatever.

ToffeeJungle · 22/01/2014 20:28

Well I think they will be teased on the surname alone just don't want to add to that by giving them an unsuitable first name!

I do love Joseph but not keen on Joe or Joey - isn't it inevitable it would get shortened?

If you like J names what about

Jago
Joby

ViviPru · 22/01/2014 21:09

Joby is cool.

OP, any chance of a peep at your DH's family tree? Might throw up some good pairings with your surname...

As an aside, DH is adamant he never ever got any stick for his name and can't fathom my concern. What's your DH's thoughts on that??

littlemrssleepy · 22/01/2014 21:26

We are Land. Ruled out:

Scott
Finn / Finley
Grace

Thought we made a safe choice and 4 months later this happened. Did take him there and made sure he got his own branded t-shirt and jumper. Beats labeling everything Grin

I like Joseph in your case?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 22/01/2014 21:30

NoArmarni let's just say it sounds like a verb in the context of the OP's (and my) surnames... in the same way that a name that sounds like 'touch' or 'wiggle' or 'empty' would....

I'm not clever enough for your clue :)
I'm going to assume your husband is called Mr Nocock

Rosieliveson · 22/01/2014 21:50

Jamie is a good nn for James.

Think Joby Aldcock sounds funny, depending on pronunciation. Is it Johby or jobby?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 22/01/2014 21:51

It can't be Jobby! That's a shit. You can't call a child Shit Oldcock

Rosieliveson · 22/01/2014 23:14

Good point! Must be pronounced Johby then. Thanks Grin

toastedteacake · 22/01/2014 23:59

Don't use a name beginning with M.

M. Aldcock

Mauled cock; sounds painful.

ToffeeJungle · 23/01/2014 08:44

So that's Marcus and all other M names ruled out! As well as names beginning with B, C, F, G, H.. and I think I've dismissed names beginning with vowels so... boys names beginning with D, J, K, L, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y, Z please!!!!

in my time i have known both a dick head and a dick cockmore. dick cockmore was a challenge; he was a consultant that came in to do work for us; i was managing a reasonably large team snd struggled not to giggle whenever i told them dick cockmore was expected that day ok yes i shamelessly giggled like a tween

i must admit if it were a girl i definitely think fanny adcock is super, as is ophelia.

unfortunately i have no sensible suggestions but you have my sympathy as someone that was pleased to lose a dreadful maiden name.

Ilovekittyelise · 23/01/2014 10:47

toffee whats your husbands name (sorry just trying toget another cheeky giggle at your expense!)

ToffeeJungle · 23/01/2014 13:18

Well I won't say DH's name though male members of the family include Stephen, Liam, Daniel and Callam - all sound fine with the surname. In fact if there wasn't already a Daniel in the family I'd probably go for that.

Someone asked about middle names too - we definitely want one but it will depend on the first name.

Rosie29 · 24/01/2014 20:11

Dexter
And Linus (possibly the best boys name ever!)

BTW It's pronounced Johby (as in Toby)!

EnglishGirlAbroad · 25/01/2014 00:46

This thread has really made me giggle!!
I've known someone with the surname Cocking, which I think is infinitely worse!
I give you
Nathaniel or Theodore??

Rosie29 · 25/01/2014 13:59

Dillon?

Rosie29 · 25/01/2014 15:04

Or even Dylan! Spelling failure there!

newyearhere · 25/01/2014 17:36

Matthew
Ethan
Philip
Adam
Josiah
David
Tobias (Toby)
Charles
Christopher
Nathan
Elliot
Jonathan

thegreylady · 25/01/2014 19:41

Edward
John

PinkGlove · 25/01/2014 19:56

Toffee - Well we have a surname thats also a verb and had huge troubles this time around!

So how about

Leo
Theo
Jasper
Louis
Edward

Love Joseph but bias Grin

WillYouDoTheFandango · 25/01/2014 20:10

I have a James shortened to Jamie and that's all anyone ever calls him. I think it goes very well with your surname.

The worst one I ever worked with was an Asian gynaecologist called Phani Tichler. It was like being in a carry on film.

Rooners · 25/01/2014 20:11

I think Jamie sounds great with it - also Edward, or Frederick.
