I've posted before about girls names to go with our unhelpful surname Aldock (see -
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/a1912210-Unhelpful-surname-Chloe-or-Freya-or)
but now I need boys name suggestions please!

Again, we've had to rule quite a few we like out, eg. Jacob (Jaco Baldcock) and Aidan (which I just think doesn't sound right - and as I've said in my previous thread, I don't really like alliteration).

We like Isaac but it just wouldn't work - I's a coldcock or I suck old cock??????!!!

Though we think Zac is a possiblility - Does Zac Aldcock sound ok?

Please can you give us some suggestions (boys or girls) - it's driving me a little crazy!!!!! Thank you!

How about something classic like James or Jamie?

Callum Aldcock
Ben Aldcock•{
Spencer Aldcock

Rosieliveson · 21/01/2014 12:12

I've no idea how the bull bit got there!!!!

ToffeeJungle · 21/01/2014 12:31

Ok so not Noah! Or Arthur.... Or Ivan...
And if it was a girl, definitely not Ophelia!!!!

Jamie is nice - is it a little feminine though?

Really think we need a strong masculine name.

And no, we're not going to change surname.

I wouldn't go for Zac, it does sound too much like suck. My suggestions are Jack, Luke, Jonas, Edward

BlueChampagne · 21/01/2014 14:01

Conrad
Daniel
Julian/Julius
Marcus

Francesca
Meredith
Julia
Constance

Definitely not Justin!

Rosieliveson · 21/01/2014 14:51

I always think of Jamie as a boys name.

I think it goes well with Aldcock. The J initial goes well too.

Any idea for a middle name or are you not having one?

Tomkat79 · 21/01/2014 15:08

I know an Owen Adcock and that works well. I like Zak too.

LavenderFox · 21/01/2014 21:13

The worst comedy name I have heard was Randi Dickermore. Apparently this poor woman has a terrible time everytime she visits the UK....

Rosie29 · 21/01/2014 21:29

Blake Aldock

wizzler · 21/01/2014 21:30

I don't like Zac with it, TBH, but love Sebastian, and Elijah

ViviPru · 21/01/2014 21:42

OMG OP hilarious thread. I have a VERY similar problem and the 'B' initial issue never occurred to me... until now! We certainly couldn't call any DD of ours Ophelia either....

My boys front runner is the highly inoffensive Rupert.....

AlternativeMoniker53 · 21/01/2014 21:48

Mustafa?

ViviPru · 21/01/2014 22:19

You do have to me careful Sadly, Mil didn't have MN thirty-odd years ago.... When I met DH online and he gave me his email address, I thought it was obscene and one of my first emails to him was asking WTF was his ridiculous, lewd email address all about. Transpired it was simply [email protected] Shock

miffybun73 · 22/01/2014 09:56

James Aldcock

Joseph Aldcock

Daniel Aldcock

ToffeeJungle · 22/01/2014 10:38

vivipru that made me laugh!!
Am pleased to know it's not just me!!

I love Daniel but that's already in the family.
I like James and love Joseph though inevitably they'd become Jim or Joe which I don't like.
Owen is nice but wasn't sure names beginning with a vowel work as well?
Definitely ruled out names beginning with B (BAldcock) so Blake is out.
I do really like Jamie and Marcus but not sure either is strong enough?
Shame about Zac as I do love this but as has been mentioned a couple of times, if there is a risk it could sound like suck then it really is a no go.

Jeremy would go. Jeremy Aldcock.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 22/01/2014 10:47

Vivi: I need to know your husband's name now

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 22/01/2014 10:49

Why not James and use the nickname Jamie then. I have a James and he's never Jim (except when I call him jimbobaroony etc) I think it's one of those names you can steer the nickname for

Rosie29 · 22/01/2014 10:51

If you like Marcus what about Marko(s)

Also Joel or Linus

Netguru · 22/01/2014 10:57

Archie
Ewan
Alfie
Sebastian
Dominic
Edward (Teddy)
George

ViviPru · 22/01/2014 10:58

NoArmarni let's just say it sounds like a verb in the context of the OP's (and my) surnames... in the same way that a name that sounds like 'touch' or 'wiggle' or 'empty' would.....

ToffeeJungle · 22/01/2014 11:09

Don't like Jeremy though agree J names work well.
Do you really think a James or a Joseph would not be shortened?
Still toying with Jamie. Also quite like Jared.
Joel is good but in the family already.
I like Dominic but fear this would get shortened to Dom - dumb old cock.
And Ewan - you and old cock.
See how difficult this is??!!?!!!

Rooners · 22/01/2014 11:15

Not Zac. Sorry.

It doesn't really flow either. You need a non emphatic syllable between the two emphatic ones.

So Zachary Aldcock flows better than Zac Aldcock iyswim

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 22/01/2014 11:17

My James is Jamie but we've always called him that. At school he chose to be James and that's all they call him.

ToffeeJungle · 22/01/2014 13:09

Ok Zac is out - not as keen on Zachary.

What do people think of Leon, Aidan / Hayden, Jared or Louis?
