My friends think the name Harris is posh. What do you all think?

Erm. I don't think it is posh at all. Sorry.

merryxmasyafilthyanimal · 30/12/2013 22:48

No, not posh. The new Harvey I think.

HyvaPaiva · 30/12/2013 22:49

It's certainly not posh!

But in any case, it's not a first name. It's a surname, a place name, a brand name (tweed), it's Rolf Harris. It sounds rough. Hate it.

LittleBoxes · 30/12/2013 22:49

It's a slang term for 'arse' where I come from.

CorporalChugNutting · 30/12/2013 22:49

And rhyming slang too...

CorporalChugNutting · 30/12/2013 22:49

Yes, forgot to add 'arse'!

Actually is dog in eastenders called Harris??

OP posts:
Puddles1234 · 30/12/2013 23:19

Absolutely not 'posh' in the slightest.

badtime · 30/12/2013 23:43

I don't think it is a posh name, but it is also not rhyming slang for arse (that would be 'aris': Aristotle - bottle/ and glass - arse).

EweHaveGoatToBeKiddin · 30/12/2013 23:46

I think the Easties dog was called Wellard. Grin

I like the name. I'd be put off using it for a while though because of the recent allegations against a famous man with the same name, as that's who i immediately think of.

That's just me though.

willyoulistentome · 30/12/2013 23:47

Not posh.. Quite the opposite.

Sorry but I'd say Harris is more chav than posh.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/12/2013 23:49

Round here it would be pronounced 'Arris.

The opposite of posh.

PrimalLass · 30/12/2013 23:51

I think it is a lovely name. Very middle class IME.

TaraLott · 30/12/2013 23:52

It's a surname or a Scottish island.
Is your surname Tweed?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 30/12/2013 23:55

I would not be in the slightest bit concerned that it's posh as it certainly isn't

So if yiu like the name - with it's non-posh connotations - then go for it

NigellasDealer · 30/12/2013 23:56

Arris?
as in "shove it up yer arris?'
please don't

ItsIgginningToLookALotLikeXmas · 30/12/2013 23:58

I think it must depend where you live!
It's like Lewis, or Iona - resolutely mc I would have said.

stickysausages · 30/12/2013 23:58

As in Harrison? One of the most common names in recent times?

Theonlyoneiknow · 31/12/2013 00:38

I love the name, if DC2 had been a boy that would have been his name. It's great. It is rising up the popularity charts quickly though in Scotland (because it's a fab name!) I know of three born this year though but that wouldn't have put me off - its lovely.

Onesleeptillwembley · 31/12/2013 00:50

Hahaha, are they taking the piss? It's quite the opposite.
