Just wondering what names are popular where you live (please say where) ?

I am in NE Scotland, names that are especially popular (in babies and younger children) are:

Harris
Hamish
Campbell
Calum
Connor
Mac

Sophie
Megan
Emily
Isla
Evie
Poppy

Ireland

Ava
Emma
Luke

These are the ones I have heard of the most, especially Ava .. Also Emily

cloggal · 27/11/2013 23:26

Central Scotland

Oscar (seems to be so popular just now)
Callum
Harris
Harry
Lachlan/Lauchlan

Evie/Eva/Eve/Ava
Sophie
Isla

We considered Harris for DS 5 years ago and now it is in the top 20 in Scotland. I hadn't heard of any other boys with that name before but now I know at least 4!

I'm in W Yorks.

Isla (every other baby girl seems to be called Isla here Confused )
Harrison
Any version of Eva/Ava/Evie as above.

Theonlyoneiknow · 27/11/2013 23:34

Isla is another one that seems to have romped up the charts in a relatively short space of time.

theoniyone - seems to be at the moment Harry is very popular, Harris if you want to go 'Scottish', Callum has been constant. I know four Oscars born in the last 18 months though! My DS is none of the above but I'd I'd mull them all over!

cloggal · 27/11/2013 23:36

Anecdotally loads of variations on Lachlan too. Love it as a name.

BunnyLebowski · 27/11/2013 23:38

Lachlan is a great name.

Unfortunately once a name shoots up in popularity I go right off it.

Naming this DC in 7 months is going to be fun!

Theonlyoneiknow · 27/11/2013 23:43

No more DC for me :-( I was just doing some party invites for DS and noticed how popular some names were getting!

Orlaith/Orlaugh/Orla

Soooo popular atm.

cloggal · 27/11/2013 23:43

I know bunny it was on my list for DS but heard of a few 'friends of friends' who had them... Had to rule it out, but maybe for a ds2, who knows...

cloggal · 27/11/2013 23:44

Where smokeandglitter?

BunnyLebowski · 27/11/2013 23:46

Agree about Orla.

No-one is using it back home in N.I. but it's really popular over here. Not one of my favourite Irish names.

Theonlyoneiknow · 27/11/2013 23:46

I loved Lachlan but DP vetoed that along with loads of other names I loved. Sadly because of our surname we couldn't use Ferguson or Fergal which I am still disappointed about!

OP posts:
Theonlyoneiknow · 27/11/2013 23:47

That should be Fergus, not Ferguson!

OP posts:
cloggal · 27/11/2013 23:47

Haha I love Orla, was on my list for a DD, but must be getting popular...

cloggal · 27/11/2013 23:48

Fergus is fab theonlyone

not helpful :)

BunnyLebowski · 27/11/2013 23:49

Fergus and Fergal are both fab.

Theonlyoneiknow · 27/11/2013 23:51

I get all Sad when I think about how great they are, if I had given DS my surname I could have used it, mwahhh

Here (Staffordshire), we seem to have;

Alfie
Harry
William
Oscar
Oliver

Ava
Sienna
Olivia
Milly/Tilly

There seems to be more variation in girls' names. Virtually every baby boy I've known in the past 3 years has had one of the four names above....

bouncingbelle · 28/11/2013 01:14

Central Scotland

Alfie
Murray
Kobey
Max

Sophie
Olivia
Eva/Evie/Eve
Emily
