Theresa is nice, I didn't know it was a place.

kelda · 10/11/2013 15:10

Didn't realise it was for a girls's name. Rio is nice. So is Ria. Theresa is lovely.

Marli1980 · 10/11/2013 15:15

Personally I love the name Arizona. Most people I talk to hate it but I really like it. I also know an India, and love it.
Its your child its your choice. For example, there are people calling there kids King and Messiah! There are much worse things to be called!

thegreylady · 10/11/2013 17:24

China is a name
Paris
Sienna
Florence is lovely and so is Milan for a boy
Beverley
Tyne

sleepingbeautiful · 10/11/2013 17:26

India is the only ok one of your list imo.
Some sensible suggestions amongst the joke answers above like Florence and Sydney, which reminded me that Adelaide, Victoria, Siena, Carolina, Georgia.

muppetthecow · 10/11/2013 17:27

I think Catarina is lovely Marli, and it would be nice for your dd to be able to have that tie to Brazil. I also know a Santana and nobody has ever batted an eyelid at that one Smile

CruCru · 10/11/2013 18:00

I always thought Vienna would be a lovely name. Or Sofia.

Would you consider Kashmir?

CruCru · 10/11/2013 18:09

Lorraine is a name and a place in France.

lisianthus · 11/11/2013 07:12

Wellington
Alderney
Orinoco
Shansi
Cholet (pronounced "show lay")

Wuldric · 11/11/2013 07:16

You have chosen all the womble names :) The OP is not having a womble.

curlew · 11/11/2013 07:22

"
Out of all the countries I think Turkey would be lovely for a baby "

Particularly if it's due in the next 6 weeks or so............

SconeForAStroll · 11/11/2013 07:23

Catarina and Teresa are both lovely and would suit little girls as easily as grown women.

RightInTheKisser · 11/11/2013 07:38

I like to call this type of thread a bandwagon bully thread. One person is nasty for no apparent reason and many others jump on the bandwagon and somehow think its ok. Why is it strange for a child to be named after a place? Or even have a name which a place has been named after? Someone with English as an additional language has asked a perfectly sensible question and it has been implied that she is thick and shouldn't choose her own child's name. Nice.

Albany
India
Skye

NoArmaniNoPunani · 11/11/2013 07:52

Catarina is lovely

PoppyAmex · 11/11/2013 07:53

OP I'm Portuguese and I know Brazilians are huge fans of very "exotic" names (I knew a Djane and a Cola once) but if you're living in the UK it would be a bit cruel to give your daughter a name that might get her mocked or bullied.

Why don't you choose a typical Brazilian name and then she will stand out in Britain anyway?

Catarina is lovely, as is Teresa by the way.

Boa sorte e tudo de bom!

maishoffwcingras · 11/11/2013 08:05

personally I would only use a place name if it meant something to me.

catarina & teresa are both lovely. if I had to choose 1 I wld probably go for teresa

Pachacuti · 11/11/2013 08:28

"Why is it strange for a child to be named after a place?"

It's not strange for a child to be named after a place. But it is strange for a parent to set out to name a child after a place -- not a particularly meaningful place, just a place. Generally a child named after a place is either (a) named after a specific place that has meaning to the parents, or (b) given a name the parents really like that just happens to be after a place. Setting out with "must be a place name" as your #1 criterion is a bit odd.

I think Catarina is lovely.

TheNunsOfGavarone · 11/11/2013 09:19

Agree with Pachacuti's comments on naming a child after a place and I think Catarina is great too.

How about Aricia - mythological figure and name of a town in Italy. Or Alba, Gaelic name for Scotland which is also imo a lovely girls' name.
