Scunthorpe, Scun for nn.

meditrina · 10/11/2013 13:36

Paris was a name before the city was given it (Greek myths). Same for Adelaide and Victoria.

I think Flarence was chosen for the place, though - but the name of the other Nightingale sister - Parthenope - didn't catch on.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 10/11/2013 13:37

The capital of Bulgaria is Sofia, how about that?

Sofia, obviously. Bulgaria is only for wombles.

Sidge · 10/11/2013 13:37

Well if you really want to go down that road there are:

India
Chelsea
Paris
Savannah
China
Georgia
Charlotte
Sydney
Adelaide
Montana
Virginia

I also know a Berlynne and an America.

meditrina · 10/11/2013 13:38

And there's a Georgette Heyer character called Carlisle.

Keswick? Morecambe? Windermere?

Marli1980 · 10/11/2013 13:38

Adelaide is so nice!

NoAddedSuga · 10/11/2013 13:38

My dd is called Devon.

I also like Paris and Sydney for girls names

galwaygirl · 10/11/2013 13:38

There's an Irish girl's name Aifric which is pronounced like Africa without the a and means pleasant.

Marli1980 · 10/11/2013 13:39

Sidge thanks nice ones

Allalonenow · 10/11/2013 13:39

NoAddedSuga · 10/11/2013 13:39

Oh and savannah was on the top 3 names for me

soaccidentprone · 10/11/2013 13:41

Iona?

Cutteduppumpkin · 10/11/2013 13:42

Paris was a name before the city, but it's a boys name, not a girls.
India became popular with the commonwealth, so fairly unpleasant connotations.

MeeWhoo · 10/11/2013 13:42

America

Wuldric · 10/11/2013 13:45

Gabon, Gaby for short
Madagascar, Maddy for short
Albuquerque, Alby for short
Ipanema, Ippy for short
Luton

Although the more I read of this thread, the more I am warming to Belgium. Your child could be a famous Belgian!!

PeppiNephrine · 10/11/2013 13:45

Wagga wagga.

FannyMcNally · 10/11/2013 13:46

Yeah but Adelaide was named after a person not the other way round!

Out of all the countries I think Turkey would be lovely for a baby Grin

KwaziiCat · 10/11/2013 13:47

I know an Aila
And a Skye

Some suggestions:
Madison
Odessa
Eden
Aspen
China
Indiana

KwaziiCat · 10/11/2013 13:48

Sierra
Sienna

DuckToWater · 10/11/2013 13:48

A few in Italy, you could have Rome, or Romy anyway. Florence I love. Milan for a boy. Others in Europe: Sofia, Vienna.

Closer to home: Romiley/Romilly is nice. Or Cary? (Castle Cary).

Wuldric · 10/11/2013 13:50

Wolverhampton would be good also. Portsmouth? How about naming the child after the city he/she was conceived in? Double whammy.

KwaziiCat · 10/11/2013 13:51

Abilene
Verona
Bristol
Calais (Callie for a nn)
Catalina

KwaziiCat · 10/11/2013 13:51

Dominica

KwaziiCat · 10/11/2013 13:52

Iberia
Holland
