Hiya, just a light hearted thread. What names do you wish you could use but for one reason or another havnt/couldn't ?

Might help someone else to find their dream baby name in the meantime.

Primrose: Grew up in primrose hill, DP would think I'd lost the plot if even suggested.

Heidi: best friends daughter

Joshua: DP hates it (although I will work on it for future DS)

Willow: Too Hippy for DP

Autumn: Don't think Im brave enough to use it but think it's beautiful.

India: same reason as Autumn really + I have no indian connections and have never been so doesn't make sense.

I always liked Flora but DH worked for a certain margarine manufacturer.

justhayley · 08/11/2013 00:10

And Hugo: close friends dog (who we are probably out with once/twice a week).

Scarlett, Alana, Clementine, Lyla, India, Evie, Rosa

Theodore, Stanley, Joshua, Freddie, Atticus, Caspian

Names DH vetoed or names that I really like or names that we just couldn't make work with our surname or siblings names.

TheAlyssWithTheMewlingQuim · 08/11/2013 00:40

Buffy
Lolita
Arthur
Zebulon

MummyBeerest · 08/11/2013 01:09

Sloane. I flipping love this name. But our surname is too short to go with it.

River. I love it, Dh cringes when I say it.

Autumn-love it, dh not keen.

Chloe-too many pets known with this name.

OnesieTwosie · 08/11/2013 02:53

Jemima - was in the US at the time and was told it was absolutely a no-go name. Racial connotations apparently.

Lydia - DH was fully onboard till he Mumsnetted it (on my advice) and saw references to Chlamydia!! Grrrr.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/11/2013 03:36

Joe - ex boyfriend. I LOVE that name.

cupoftchai · 08/11/2013 03:43

Mara. Rhymes with my name.

BobaFetaCheese · 08/11/2013 03:45

Percival, Lancelot and Bors/Boromir.

Dh said they're all very pretentious, I know he's right but dammit I wanted to use them as middle names!

I wanted to use Augustus as a middle name for ds2 but the wee awkward one had other ideas and came in July

Love Autumn as a girls name, think Winter would be fab for a boy

Mattissy · 08/11/2013 04:31

Seth, I love it but I'm not having anymore babies, which makes it quite hard to use, lol

Maisy, was our name for ds if he'd been a girl. Still loved it when dd came along but dh and ds already had M names and we didn't want a theme.

Weeantwee · 08/11/2013 05:35

Angharad - I live in Scotland,DH would never go for it.
Eleri - My ex cheated on me with an Eleri.
Eilidh - DH's ex girlfriend

Lucius - Death eater in Harry Potter

PoppyAmex · 08/11/2013 05:39

We're in Scotland.

Magnus - DH hates it

Angus - DH thinks of steak

Sholto - DH just laughed

kiwik · 08/11/2013 05:53

I really want to use Ptolemy or Stanley, but DHs surname ends in LEY, so it sounds a bit utterly butterly.
All names ending in an E sound are ruled are really as it's just too rhymey.
I loved Ottillie for a girl too. Sad

Surname starts with a D, which also rules out my current favourite names Dominic and Damaris.

Lastofthepodpeople · 08/11/2013 05:57

Ha, my two favourites, River and Atticus, are already here. DH vetoed both when we were discussing names for DC1. Still sorry I didn't get Atticus when DC turned out to be a DS.

Lvcat · 08/11/2013 06:00

Rupert- DP hates it
Ralph- DP says it sounds like someone being sick
Roxy- apparently it's a "tarty" name (?)
Rocco- me and DP are no where near cool enough to pull that off

(We really like R names)

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 08/11/2013 06:09

Pixie - because you just can't call a child Pixie (world according to my XP, and most sensible people it seems)

So my dog is called Pixie.

SaltySeaBird · 08/11/2013 06:21

Finn
Ben
Samuel
Theo
Naithaniel
Toby

All names I would have liked of close family / friends / pets

TheBookofRuth · 08/11/2013 06:35

Girls' names:
Grace: I am horribly, horrendously clumsy. It's too great a risk that a DD might be likewise to use this name.
Wren: DH, DD1 and myself are not small people. I suspect calling a DD this would lead to a lifetime of barely-suppressed laughter every time she introduces herself.

Boys' names:

Kier: putting aside the Mumsnet prejudice against names that start with K, our surname does too. He'd sound like he was stuttering.
Atticus: mainly because I'm not brave enough, but it also has a very similar sound to our surname.

conorsrockers · 08/11/2013 06:38

If I'd had a girl it would have been Delilah. I also like Phoenix, not sure where or how I'd use it.
Although, I have got a Lennon ;)

ThisIsYourSong · 08/11/2013 06:45

I wanted Elliott but DH didn't like it. Also Ryan which doesn't go with surname.

If I had a daughter she would have been Rebecca, which I absolutely love. Three boys here HmmWink

Wishfulmakeupping · 08/11/2013 06:56

My beloved boy names of choice Henry, Charles, Arthur and Raife all vetoed by oh. He also hated Edith, Francesca but luckily decided on a beautiful name for our dd.

I've always liked the name Lydia but between the towie effect and a really annoying one I know it put me off- which probably isn't a bad thing reading your post onesie Grin

Nataleejah · 08/11/2013 07:31

With DS2 i wanted him to be Clyde :(

halecromp · 08/11/2013 12:49

I have always loved the name Athena but don't think we could pull it off. Also love Leighton but our surname ends in 'ton' so it sounds horrible.

spidersolitare · 08/11/2013 12:58

Ruby....cos it would have sounded too much like ruby tuesday

Mollie. Cos dh's cm was called Mollie and he thought it was disrespectful to his mum
