Bethan or Betsan

We need a name that is somehow related to Elisabeth.

What do you think?

I think Bethan is more popular but then not living in Wales is Betsan too welsh? but then it doesnt have a weird sound or anything

I love Bethan. It's one of DD's middle names.

I like the names Beth, Bethan, Betty, Betsy.
I do like Betsan, but it's not well known outside of Wales so she would probably have to explain / repeat it every time she goes somewhere new.
I like Liz and Lizzie to.

All of that said, I think it's a lot easier if your initial remains the same, whether you are using your full or shortened name...a 'Betty' I know has had a lot of problems over the years with cheques etc addressed to B.Surname when her bank account is E.Surname.

Bethan or Betsan (or something else) would be the full name. We want something related to Elisabeth but not Elisabeth (so Liz,Lizzy all of them are out because we dont like them as stand alone names)
DP likes the idea of having something Welsh (being welsh)

I like both names, and as your DH is welsh I think Betsan is a good strong choice. It sounds cute for a baby and strong for an adult. I like Bethan but Betsan just sounds better to me.

I prefer Bethan, but then I'm not Welsh and hadn't heard the name Betsan before so it sounds like some kind of medical product to me, sorry :-(

I've never heard Betsan before, it's quite nice but must admit the 'san' might put me off.

sorry to me Betsan sounds like an antiseptic kitchen product or a sanitary towel - if you want something Welsh there are loads of lovely Welsh girls' names such as
Manon
Gwenllian
Meredith
Ceinwen
and plenty more....

In my age-group (40s) Bethans are 10 a penny but it's not as popular now. I prefer Betsan and you have the option of using Betsi as a nn which is very sweet.

Never liked Bethan but always liked Bethany. Prefer Beth to both names though

I have a Bethan so I'm biased, but we chose it partially as a Welsh-ish name that would be easily understood/spelled/pronounced outside of Wales (DH's family is Welsh, he has a very Welsh name but grew up in London and gets very bored of constantly spelling/explaining it)

Oh and her 2.5 yr old brother calls her Betty!
