A sister for Jupiter?

We have decided to wait until the twins are born to decide their names as it seems we can't settle on two this time round. We're having b/g twins and have a list of possible names that flow and match each other as well as the other DC.

We both fell in love with Jupiter so it's on the list but cannot find a girl's name that matches (topic wise) or flows. We did love Astra Faye but sounds too close to Ash Tray!

We don't like Juniper, Juno as they're too close in name.

Any ideas?

I like it too. I also like Roy.

AKissIsNotAContract · 24/09/2013 20:02

I'd go for a name related to the sea. Marina is probably too ordinary for you but something like that.

mathanxiety · 24/09/2013 20:40

Maris

The name is safe DH doesn't like haha.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread as they may be here earlier than expected! maybe Friday.

We have a new name lined up with Jupiter but our twin boy may not even look like a Jupiter! Haha.

How about:
Kismet
Dharma

duchessandscruffy · 26/09/2013 10:45

How about Pretentia for a girl? Gorgeous name!

daughterofafarmer · 27/09/2013 08:24

Think today might be the day OP has her twins...do let us know what you pick.

Good luck, hope it goes smoothly.

VoiceofRaisin · 27/09/2013 08:40

I don't know, these names are all witty, erudite and original but are they all fair? These are real little people who will have to be introduced to new friends/teachers/ nannies/employers/admissions tutors by those names. Let them choose eccentric names for themselves after they have discovered they are indeed extrovert, vivacious and loving limelight, but why not give them saner names as a starting point. I fear you may be limiting their chances in life if you don't give them names that would sound sensible as a CEO, or as a lawyer or doctor rather than sounding like someone who has walked off a stage set.

Keep Jupiter as your family name for your little boy :-) It's a wonderful nickname but not an easy name for your first interaction with the outside world.

Anyway, just me worrying that people are getting carried away suggesting daft names for you to use (??Pretentia - can you imagine being called that?) - it's as if they haven't clicked this is RL.

Look at Ronan Farrow (born "Satchel").

Good luck with the birth btw. I wish your little ones a lifetime of happiness and love.

BTW Lyra is not eccentric and is beautiful.

People always use judges as a yardstick. Well, I've checked and there are or have been judges called Helenus (male), Igor, Swinton (male, as a first name), Haydn (ditto), Thayne (ditto), Joyanne (female) and Brenda.

So not as bland as we all seem to think. Thing is, names don't hold you back. And once you achieve power everyone accepts what you are called. Ask Condoleeza.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 27/09/2013 11:41

Im just shamelessly marking place to find out what you decide.

BalloonSlayer · 27/09/2013 12:29

voiceofraisin I think "pretentia" was a facetious suggestion not a real one.

I keep seeing this thread on my "threads I'm on" list and it makes me uncomfortable as the title makes the girl baby sound like an appendage. "A sister for Jupiter" as if she has to have a name to match the boy. Why can't she be called a name you just like?

Why can't you decide you love the name Jane, and then decide that he can't be called Jupiter because it doesn't go with her name, so have to call him Peter.

Just makes it seem like the boy is more important. Sad

XmasDestination · 27/09/2013 18:08

BS, I don't see it like that at all. OP likes a name, happens to be one she wants to assign to her boy. Nothing more, nothing less.

SmokedMackerel · 27/09/2013 18:32

I used to love the three investigators books, and think Jupiter was the most brilliant name ever.

I hope your older child has a similarly grandiose name, might cause issues between them in future if he is called something run of the mill.

MultipleMama · 27/09/2013 18:46

No twins, yet. If my AF hadn't increased by today they would have induced me but so far they've improved and I'm off magnesium. Just a waiting game. Goal is 34 weeks.

A sister for Jupiter, id exactly that. I love the name but we want another gorgeous name for daughter. I don't want a plain name for her. I want a name that she can express as her own but also to connect and share something with her twin even if it's just a small connection like having astronomy names.

Will update when they arrive.

Smoked - 2 have German names, 2 are book inspired, so these names will fit perfectly :)

Eldritch here is a list of all sitting High Court Judges:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_High_Court_judges_of_England_and_Wales

I think names can indeed hold you back in certain professions. When I confess to once having had a boyfriend called Trevor, everyone hoots. He was lovely but that is their response to him without even having met him. I doubt Jupiter would fare any better....

peachypips · 28/09/2013 19:14

You could call your daughter Jupiter. It seems fairly unisex to me. Also looking forward to hearing about your birth and what you have chosen. Promise you will tell us their names!

MultipleMama · 28/09/2013 20:27

We have a new set of names to add to the list so we'll see what they look like. I came off Magnesium yesterday and no labor (yay! Considering I'm only 30+4)!

Will let you all know. Do you want to know here or on a new thread titled "The big reveal"? Lol

MsJupiterJones · 28/09/2013 20:54

I misread that for a second and thought it said you were considering Magnesium.

SingingSands · 28/09/2013 20:55

I have an American friend called Starr. I love it!

mathanxiety · 28/09/2013 20:59

Keep it here so we won't all get lost

mathanxiety · 28/09/2013 21:00

Oh now that is an inspired misreading Smile -- the periodic table is surely a treasure trove of possibilities?
