A sister for Jupiter?

We have decided to wait until the twins are born to decide their names as it seems we can't settle on two this time round. We're having b/g twins and have a list of possible names that flow and match each other as well as the other DC.

We both fell in love with Jupiter so it's on the list but cannot find a girl's name that matches (topic wise) or flows. We did love Astra Faye but sounds too close to Ash Tray!

We don't like Juniper, Juno as they're too close in name.

Any ideas?

I like Jupiter. I used to be a teacher and I would have thought 'how original' rather than stupid.

CrackersandCheese · 22/09/2013 14:03

Vesta
Ascella
Polaris
Ida

Lyra and Jupiter are an excellent combination IMO.

It's been said that Jupiter could have been a star if it had more mass. But lets not dwell on that fact and stick to King of the solar system haha.

When we first thought of the name; myths hardly came into it. We choose it as we both love Astronomy, I later realised it the connection (I love Greek Mythology) so the names don't have to be myth related.

I love Polaris but DH thinks that too out there. No pun intended.

I always find girl names harder to pick.

Lyra Sophia is fabulous!

Tattiesthroughthebree · 22/09/2013 15:13

Polaris is a missile.

I like Jupiter and Seren.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Jupiter Jones from the Three Investigators books? DS loves those books. I don't regard Jupiter as too "out there" because I'm used to hearing about Jupiter Jones.

I think Lyra is a strong name that suits Jupiter. She is home to the star Vega, the Ring Nebula and the triplet galaxies. She also has 9 stars with known planets. I think she has 3 asteroid showers named after her plus she's presented as an Eagle/Vulcan in myths. - According to DH and his research list.

Short list is;
Lyra Sophia
Gaia Sophia
Luna Sophia
Thea Anneliese
Isis Sophia

Then all we have to do is choose a set of names when they're born...

waves to MsJupiterJones. Have you name changed from Baby Fatso, by any chance? Grin

nonmifairidere · 22/09/2013 19:25

Jupiter - seriously? Your poor kid. Talk about poncilicious.

filee777 · 22/09/2013 19:27

Isis Sophia

Judybluey · 22/09/2013 19:37

We know an Athena and her little sister Avalon.

dementedma · 22/09/2013 19:44

Jupiter and Isis won't be attending the local inner city comp then, I take it?

shrinkingnora · 22/09/2013 19:51

Isis goes really well with Jupiter.

AlansCatalanCat · 22/09/2013 20:39

Isis Sophia is too hissy though.

From OP's list I like Lyra Sophia best. Especially if you use the old-style pronunciation So-FY-ah. Sounds much stronger than So-FEE-ah.

MultipleMama · 22/09/2013 20:43

We haven't decided if Jupiter & [insert girl's name here] will be the name of our twins. They're just on the list. I'd rather my child be Jupiter than George and Mildred, no offense to those are named that, DH & I just don't like those traditional names.

DH doesn't like Isis, he's having trouble pronouncing it... "is ayeee-sis or i-sis?" And with his German accent, it sounds funny.

Sorry haven't read all 10 pages (!) But I see you have Thea which is a name I love, the only other greek name I'd pick for one of my own is Thalia.

Love that name.

Not sure if it fits with your theme efforts but thought I'd throw it in.

LeGavrOrf · 22/09/2013 21:38

Lyra Sophia is wonderful. My daughter is called Sophia so I am biased, but it is a beautiful name euphorically and also had a good meaning (wisdom)

Lyra, Gaia, Isis, Thea, Luna with Sophia as a middle name are all excellent. I don't like Annaliese because of a daft character in Neighbours in the 90s but if your husband is German I understand the liking for that name.

One last idea, Galatea or Galena.

LeGavrOrf · 22/09/2013 21:39

And also the character Lyra Belacqua in the His Dark Materials trilogy is rather splendid.

LeGavrOrf · 22/09/2013 21:39

Thalia is also a beautiful name and would go very well with Jupiter.
