Do names remind you of things like food, for example?

I was going to post this on AIBU, but whenever I've asked people in person whether or not names evoke thoughts of certain foods or objects, they've told me I'm weird or they don't know what the hell I'm on about so I know I'll be flamed haha.

Like for example, the name Robert reminds me of custard. And Melissa reminds me of penne pasta (HAS to be penne.) I could go on and on, and I don't think there would be a name that doesn't evoke some sort of food. It's actually how I decide whether I like certain names.
I can't explain why some names remind me of certain foods, except for more obvious ones like Albert- it reminds me of Broccoli, you can see why. And Diane reminds me of Steak Diane. Tony reminds me of Frosties. Some names remind me of a food that it sounds like- Kayleigh/ Jelly. But for some reason its always food!

Anyone else like this?

No idea whatsoever on this one! Names definitley don't remind me of food. Unless they are food and drink names, like Margarita, Chardonnay or Clementine.

Tell me mayoandchips - is your username really supposed to be tomandjerry? rosieandjim?

mayoandchips · 11/07/2013 01:20

Your reply made me laugh out loud AllegraLilac. And now I have the Rosie and Jim theme tune playing in my head, but instead it is 'Mayo and Chips, Mayo and Chips.'

It's a reference to my pregnancy craving lol.

Maybe you have some kind of taste synaesthesia? No more strange than some people saying names are certain colours.

NooMyx · 11/07/2013 10:12

I was going to say the same as Wbdn!
It's colours for me: Robert's kind of blue grey, Melissa pale yellow. :)

Rhubarbgarden · 11/07/2013 12:15

Synaesthesia here too. Sounds very similar. It has different forms, and some are taste related.

8thplace · 11/07/2013 13:50

I think Its a bit nutty, but I quite like it! Seems like fun.

May I ask what food the name George brings to mind? My fav boys name.

Bronteshoes · 11/07/2013 13:55

My friend's DH's does the exact same thing. To him, my name reminds him of vegetable soup. His wife's name is strawberry ice-cream.

Bronteshoes · 11/07/2013 13:56

DH not DH's!

elQuintoConyo · 11/07/2013 13:59

How fascinating! I bet my name would remind you of pie and mash!

LalyRawr · 11/07/2013 14:01

Ohhh!

Can I give you a list of names and ask you what food they remind you of?

extracrunchy · 11/07/2013 14:01

Yep - except mine are textures.

Richard = the fake prickly plastic grass they have in butcher displays

Hannah = pink marzipan

Sally = the gold swirly bits on old fashioned carousel horses

Emma = grated lemon peel

John = big roundish loaf of unbaked country bread

Grin
Choccyhobnob · 11/07/2013 14:04

That is interesting. Numbers and days of the week and letters to some extent have colours in my head but haven't come across food association!

extracrunchy · 11/07/2013 14:05

8th, for me George is thick, almost solid porridge! Which sounds gross but I really like the name. It's DS's middle name!

TanglednotTamed · 11/07/2013 14:07

A strange form of synaesthesia! I came on to see if you had come across children called things like 'Cheese' or 'Sausage', but I see it's a bit more subtle than that Grin

steppemum · 11/07/2013 14:08

Ok I love threads like this, as I am totally boring and don't have any associations (except children i have taught)

So what does this name make you think of???

Rebecca

extracrunchy · 11/07/2013 14:14

Rebecca - dark green felt Grin

steppemum · 11/07/2013 14:15

extracrunchy · 11/07/2013 14:15

FunnysInLaJardin · 11/07/2013 14:21

SavoyCabbage · 11/07/2013 14:21

extracrunchy · 11/07/2013 14:26

Haha Savoy that cracked me up!

AllegraLilac · 11/07/2013 14:43

What does Felicity remind you of?

extracrunchy · 11/07/2013 15:24

Felicity - glacé cherries

NooMyx · 11/07/2013 16:38

mewkins · 11/07/2013 22:04
